Lazy -Apathy Cost
Contributed by Wade Martin Hughes, Sr on Jul 22, 2022 (message contributor)
STORY: ONE EVENING THERE WAS AN OLD WISE MAN SITTING ON HIS PORCH WHEN A YOUNG MAN APPROACHED HIM. The young man said: HOW I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOUR WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING AND RICHES. The sun was setting. The old man said saddle that horse. The young man saddled the horse. The old man gave him two big saddle bags. Then old man said get on the horse. The young man jumped on the horse and took the two big saddle bags. The old man said now ride due east until you get to a big river. Dismount from the horse and put the rocks from the shore in the saddle bag and be back here by the time the sun comes up. The young man rode the horse all night. The young man said this is so stupid. When the young man got to the river it was so dark, but he dismounted. He put a small hand full of rocks in the one saddle bag and then he got another small hand full and put in the other saddle bag. He mounted the horse and rode back the rest of the night. The old man was sitting in his rocking chair on the porch as the sun was coming up. The old man inquired, did you do as I said? The boy said yes sir, it was so dark but I got two small hands full of rocks. The old man said: OPEN THE SADDLEBAGS AND POUR THE CONTENTS AT MY FEET. The young man thought, it is just dumb old rocks. But he did as the old man instructed him. There at the old man’s feet was two small hands full of rocks. They were not rocks as the young man thought. There were diamonds, gold nuggets, pearls, rubies and valuable gems. The old man said why so few? The young man said I thought they were just rocks, I thought I was picking up just rocks. The old man said you lazy, apathetic, no zeal, no enthusiasm, no interest, no concern --- your don’t care attitude has caused you to miss out on great wealth. You could have had hundreds of pounds of rare jewels… THIS IS A SPIRITUAL STORY OF WHAT YOU COULD RECEIVE FROM GOD… You could be rich in the word of God. You could touch many people. You could have helped at church and in your family. Your desire to take it easy and seek entertainment instead of preparation and education will cost tears and a broken heart.
Luke 12:17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
THOUGHT IN HIMSELF… WHAT SHALL I DO… I HAVE NO ROOM, MY FRUITS… THIS WILL I DO… I WILL PULL DOWN… I WILL BUILD GREATER… I WILL HAVE ALL MY FRUITS… I HAVE LAID UP MANY YEARS OF STUFF… I WILL TAKE IT EASY… I WILL EAT… I WILL DRINK… I WILL BE MERRY… WITH MANY TEARS AND A BROKEN HEART --- WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN… THOU FOOL… GOD WILL REQUIRE…
