Contributed by Wade Martin Hughes, Sr on Jan 27, 2021 (message contributor)
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
WRONG WAY, ROY RIEGELS was playing for University of California Berkeley in the 1929 Rose Bowl for the National Championship. WRONG WAY recovered a fumble and was going to be the hero of game. Wrong Way was a lineman and never carried the football. A Georgia Tech player hit ROY SO HARD he turned and started running the football to the wrong goal and scored a touchdown for Georgia Tech. TECH WON THE GAME BY ONE TOUCHDOWN. Roy cried and cried. His coach spurred him to be a better player. THERE WAS A RUNNER FROM TANZANIA NAMED JOHN STEPHEN AKHWARI THAT RAN IN THE 1968 OLYMPICS IN MEXICO CITY. He was a MARATHON RUNNER. His race was long and hard. The race was over one hour before John came limping into the stadium. One hour behind the winner? Yet he crossed the finish line. He was asked WHY? WHY DID YOU FINISH KNOWING THE RACE’S WINNER WAS 1 HOUR IN FRONT OF YOU? John replied: MY COUNTRY DID NOT SEND ME TO MEXICO CITY TO QUIT. THEY SENT ME TO START AND TO FINISH THE RACE.
