For The Longest Time
Contributed by Dr. Fred W. Penney on Sep 10, 2020 (message contributor)
For the Longest Time
Chorus
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest
Verse 1
When you said goodbye to me in March
There was still more worship left to bring
What else could I do?
I'm so inspired by you
Church hasn't happened
for the longest time
verse 2
Once I thought my inspiration was all gone
Now I know that worship carries on
Online church is where you found me
When you put your stream out to me
I've been missing (Elim) for the longest time
Chorus
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest
Verse 3
I'm that hum you're
hearing in the pew
And the greatest story of them all
Is how He loves us
And how he blessed me too
This will go on
for the longest time
(Bridge)
Maybe this mask won't last very long
And it feels not too bad
And I could be wrong
Maybe I've been praying too hard
But we’ve come this far
church is more than I hoped for
verse 4
Who knows how much further we'll go on
Maybe soon we’ll all be gone (to heaven)
I'll sing his praises
I forgot how nice your pews are
I haven't been here for the longest time
Bridge
I had second thoughts at the start
I said to myself “Hold on to your heart”
Now I know the power that you are
You are wonderful so far
(Elim’s) much more than I hoped for
Verse 5
I don't know what consequence this brings
I have been a fool for lesser things
I'll Give him glory so loud
I think you ought to know that
I intend to praise here for the longest time
Original Song (B Joel)
[Chorus]
Whoa, oh, oh, oh (for the longest)
For the longest time
Whoa, oh, oh (for the longest)
For the longest
[Verse 1]
If you said goodbye to me tonight
There would still be music left to write
What else could I do?
I'm so inspired by you
That hasn't happened
For the longest time
[Verse 2]
Once I thought my innocence was gone
Now I know that happiness goes on
That's where you found me
When you put your arms around me
I haven't been there for the longest time
[Chorus]
Whoa, oh, oh, oh (for the longest)
For the longest time
Whoa, oh, oh (for the longest)
For the longest
[Verse 3]
I'm that voice you're
Hearing in the hall
And the greatest miracle of all
Is how I need you
And how you needed me too
That hasn't happened
For the longest time
[Bridge]
Maybe this won't last very long
But you feel so right
And I could be wrong
Maybe I've been hoping too hard
But I've gone this far
And it's more than I hoped for
[Verse 4]
Who knows how much further we'll go on
Maybe I'll be sorry when you're gone
I'll take my chances
I forgot how nice romance is
I haven't been there for the longest time
[Bridge]
I had second thoughts at the start
I said to myself, "hold on to your heart"
Now I know the woman that you are
You're wonderful so far
And it's more than I hoped for
[Verse 5]
I don't care what consequence it brings
I have been a fool for lesser things
I want you so bad
I think you ought to know that
I intend to hold you for the longest time
[Outro] Whoa, oh, oh, oh (for the longest)
For the longest time
Whoa, oh, oh (for the longest)
For the longest time
Whoa, oh, oh (for the longest)
For the longest time
Whoa, oh, oh (for the longest)
For the longest time...
Inspired by Billy Joel/ “For the Longest Time.” (1984) "The Longest Time" is a single by Billy Joel.
The song features Joel on lead vocals, all backing vocals, and percussive sounds such as finger snaps and hand claps. The only two instruments in the song are a bass guitar and a snare drum being played with brushes. When the song is covered by vocal groups, the bass part is typically sung.
