Sexual Sins
Contributed by Dr. Larry Petton on Oct 15, 2019 (message contributor)
Greek & Roman religions taught very little about personal holiness. A person could bring sacrifices to an idol, say a few prayers & go away from the altar and commit sin freely. No one would ever think he was inconsistent in his faith. This is not so with the life of a follower of Christ. Heaven-bound believers are to be clothed in robes of righteousness and not live in rags of filth since coming to Christ.
But how do you stay clean in such a dirty world? Deal with sexual sins in your heart.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the Church at Colosse and warned them to "put to death" these five sexual sins (Colossians 3:5-7):
(1) FORNICATION (porneia) – sex outside of God’s boundaries
(2) UNCLEANNESS (akatharsia) – impurity, dirty minded attitude
(3) PASSION (pathos) – desire to go beyond wickedness to depravity
(4) SHAMEFUL DESIRE (epithumia) – lustful craving for the forbidden
(5) COVETING – wanting someone who does not belong to you.
