Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas

Sermon Illustrations

Main Idea: Jesus defeated the devil and all the devil’s power is gone.

Verse: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19 NKJV).

Illustration: A snake came into my living room. I tried to shoe it away. But it did not leave. I said to the snake, “We cannot both live in the same house, either you must leave, or I must leave.” The snake would not leave. So I grabbed a sledgehammer and squished the head of the snake. Even though the snake was dead (his head was flatter then a pancake), it still moved like it was more dangerous then ever. All the power was gone, but it was still moving. I used a shovel to pick it up and took it outside. I said, “Mr. Snake, your power is gone.” The devil might pretend to have power, but Jesus stepped on the head of the devil and now all the devil’s power is gone.
