The Train Engineer
Contributed by Daniel King, D. Min. on Jul 25, 2018 (message contributor)
Main Idea: God the Father sacrificed His only Son so that we could live.
Verse: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV).
Illustration: Once there was a train engineer who had one job, to change the track so the train would not crash. One day he heard the train coming and the track was going the wrong way. He ran to change the track but his only son was stuck on the track. He had a choice. If he ran to save his son, the train would wreck and hundreds of people would die. But if he changed the track, his son would die. He decided to change the track and as the train rushed past, his heart broke as his son died a horrible death. The people on the train continued to laugh gaily. They had no idea of the sacrifice that had been made on their behalf. In the same way, God sacrificed His only Son so that we could live.
