Main Idea: Everyone has sinned and done things that are wrong.

Verse: “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8 NKJV).

Illustration: When I was a child, my mother baked some cookies. The house smelled so good and I wanted one of the cookies. I asked my mom, “Can I have a cookie?” She replied, “No, we are saving the cookies for desert after dinner. Do not touch the cookies.” She pulled all the cookies out of the oven and left them cooling down on the counter. I snuck into the kitchen and I stared at the cookies. They looked so good. I reached out my hand and touched one of the cookies. A crumb broke off and I decided it would be fine to eat the little crumb. It tasted so delicious I decided to eat a whole cookie. But then there was a cookie missing so I rearranged all the cookies so the hole would not be noticed. In order to make them look right, I had to eat two more cookies. Just then, my mother came back into the kitchen. She saw the crumbs around my mouth. “Daniel, did you eat a cookie?” “No,” I lied. She gave me a spanking and sent me to bed without any supper. That day, I disobeyed my mother, I stole, and I lied. All three of these actions are sins. The Bible says that everyone has sinned (Romans 3:23). That means that everyone needs forgiveness.
