About Steve
  • Experience: There was a time where I thought I had been blessed. I had the money; the nicest cars; would eat out at the fanciest restaurants and buy rounds of drinks for anyone that accompanied me; and a woman that loved me dearly. One evening, in May of 2013, I came home to tragedy. The woman I loved had taken her own life. I was devastated! From that moment on, my life would be a living hell. Nothing I once cared about... nothing I owned nor all the money in the world would bring me out of the abyss I had now fallen into. A few short months later, after living a life of sin and sustaining myself on nothing but alcohol, cigarettes and whatever I could buy at a gas station mini-mart, it all went away. I lost my high-paying job. The bank took my fancy car back. I couldn't find employment anywhere as my outward appearance displayed my unruly daily activities. My life was surely over. Years had now passed. When all seemed lost and the only vehicle I owned was a 10 year-old motorcycle, a friend asked me to "ride" with them to a local bar which had a Sunday Church service out back, under a canvas tarp. I listened to the Pastor's words. At that time, I thought he was a great man and perhaps he could bring me out of all this despair. I continued going every Sunday and, strangely, he would gaze at me each week sitting in his little congregation and say, "It should be you up here Woody." Sadly, he developed cancer and God soon took him home. Being urged by other members of this little church to continue what he had started, I took a chance. I now understand that all he had been saying each week, wasn't from him but from God. It was God's words and Christ's lessons that were taking my pain away and pointing me in the direction God wanted me to go. Yes, I no longer have the things that this world considers riches, but I have so much more. Each week now, going on nearly three years, I rely on God's Holy Spirit to fill me... to give me the words He would have me speak. Today, I am richer than I could ever imagine. Filled with God's Grace. I thank my God every day for all that I have received and all that I am yet to receive. I thank my Lord Jesus for His valuable lessons on how I should live my life and how He lives in mine. I thank the Holy Spirit for cleansing me each day and providing strength to face the challenges this world puts before me. Our little Church is still growing. Some come every week; some have come and gone. All in all, we are a strong little flock with Christ as our Shepherd and our people truly do know and understand their blessings and where they’ve come from. My life has been enriched so greatly by God. I dedicate myself to Him and will do so until the time He calls me home to walk beside my Lord. God Bless our Church; God Bless our people; and may God Bless all that read, hear and understand His Word and have given their lives to Lord Jesus!
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Every sermon I write is written according to an inspiration I have received from God. He continually blesses my life each day and shows me things I have never seen before. His biggest encouragement to me, is to speak from my heart.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: To choose one particular verse in the Bible is utterly impossible to me. There is not a day goes by where I can randomly open God's Word and simply point to any verse. I can assure you, whatever I read, will somehow move me and inspire me to persevere.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My parents have passed and now walk in peace beside our Lord. I know in my heart, they look down on me a smile.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: As you read through your Bible, believe in what you read and have faith, for it is truly the Word of God.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Don't let God's Word go unheard... tell it to all that need to hear!
  • What I want on my tombstone: Blessed by God; Forgiven by Christ; Filled with The Holy Spirit

In these times, many of us are losing hope. As children of God and brothers and sisters to Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit, it is important to remember who we are and who loves us. All that we "need" will one day be given to us at the time we need it most.

How many of you are losing hope? I suspect, with all that is happening in our world, probably quite a few. I must admit, there are times I feel the same way as you might today. I am only human and I do have my doubts about certain things. You’ve seen all the posts on Facebook and other social ...read more

  • Gifts Of The Christ

In John 3 and John 4, John's writings show us how Jesus' gifts were widespread and not limited to who we are; what we are; how much we have; or what we believe our value us. To our Lord, we are all the same and He offers, freely, to us all

The Apostle John (also known as Saint John) was one of Jesus Christ’s 12 disciples, and a prominent leader in the early Christian church. Along with James and Peter, John was one of Jesus’ closest confidants, so he appears in more biblical accounts than the other disciples. John is traditionally ...read more

  • Easter - 2020

Easter is one of our most holy of celebrations as a Christian. This is the day our Lord, defeated the world and proved He was, beyond the shadow of doubt, truly... the Son of God!

I’ve always talked about how difficult it sometimes is to write something for everyone each week. We’ve all heard God’s words and, hopefully, have listened intently and realized the Love He has for us and the sacrifice His Son made to free us from ourselves. This week, my task was not all that ...read more

What if, throughout history, things didn't happen the way they did? Would life be different for us all today? We are in very hard times right now and our "what-ifs" can make the difference in our future.

As soon as this virus was named a Pandemic, I was given a new role as “Business Essential.” Basically, what this meant was that even if our Governor, or the President, shuts down our state, I am required as a “Mission Critical” employee to come to work. Seeing this getting closer and closer to a ...read more

We are in dire times right now. It is important to all of us that we keep our focus on God and not let the world distract us from our mission... only adapt, as God leads us through this struggle.

Our nation and the entire world is in high-panic mode at this time, and we here at Sunrise Chapel, will do everything within our power to help the local communities and people impacted by the restrictions put on us by our state and federal governments. We have all agreed to “follow the rules” put ...read more
