• Education: Graduate of San Jose Bible College, now William Jessup University. BS in Theology and Christian Leadership. Working on a Masters in Church Planting/Growth from Liberty University.
• Experience: I have been leading in ministry since 1980. In particular, music ministry and teaching. After many years of lay ministry I was recruited to begin a music ministry in a 10 year old church. While I came as a lay minister within a years time I was placed on staff as a High School Youth Pastor/Music Minister. I spent 10 years at Morgan Hill Bible Church before God called me to church planting.
• Comment to those looking at my sermons: I hope that I will always remember to thank the many contributors to Sermon Central for the valuable insights I find here. I am a bi-vocational church planter and it is wonderful to lean on you all especially when I get to the end of 60 hour work week and find myself on Saturday night needing to write a sermon for tomorrow. Thank you.
• Sermon or series that made a difference: There are so many. One thing I can tell is this. About two years ago a Pastor named Bill Johnson challenged me to preach not from what I can research but from what transforms me. Before that time, as a teacher, I was a careful but predictable practioneer of hermenutics. My goal being accurate instruction. My goal is no longer to instruct but to transform by the renewing of my mind. That means that I preach what changes me. I preach from transformation.
• Family: My wife, Janet and I have two daughters. They are both grown and married. We are expecting our first grandchild in Sept. 09.
• What my parents think of my sermons: What they have heard they love. Admittedly it’s only a few as they live halfway across the country.
• What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My wife is an amazing woman. She is my best critic and most loyal advocate. She is also a talented writer. Right now she is a co-author and the editor of Women In Church Planting. A monthly newsletter of encouragement and support for other women who are church planting with their husbands. It is directed at this time to about 50 women who are in the field with Stadia New Church Strategies. • Best advice given to me about preaching: Read above.
• Books that have had an impact: Jack Deere’s Surprised by the Spirit and Surprised by the Voice of God. Everything C.S. Lewis. Bill Johnson’s Heaven to Earth and the Power of a Transformed Mind. Everything Graham Cooke. Ford’s Transformational Leadership.
• Hobbies: I teach, coach and play tennis. Music of course and for the last 3 years riding my motorcycle.
• What I want on my tombstone: He said what the Father said, He did what the Father did.
