About Robbie
  • Education: I am a high school graduate. After high school, I had an extremely successful business. However, after several years of alcoholism and drug addiction, this too fell victim. I have no "professional" ministerial training, if I may put it that way. I do have examples though, through my Dad, Pastor Rodney Bankens and my Pastor, Tim Mahoney. These two anointed men of God, are inspirations to me. My ministry feeds off of the Spirit of God and my life experiences and overcoming the past.
  • Experience: Four short years ago, I was an alcoholic and a Crystal Meth addict. Nearly four years ago, I died of a massive overdose. I was revived, thanks to the power of prayer directed to a merciful and gracious God. I have since recorded 4 gospel music CDs. I have traveled to preach, sing and testify in 7 states. I have given my testimony of deliverance in countless public schools, jails and prisons. I have seen many wonderful things happen over the past few years and I’m so excited, because I believe that the best is yet to come!
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Please feel free to preach and share my messages. If you’d like to publish any portion of them for any purpose, please contact me with the information prior to that for discussion. If you’d like for me to come and minister in your assembly, please visit my website at www.robbiebankens.org for contact information. I’d love to schedule a date or series of dates to be minister to your congregation.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: A Sermon that made a difference? I suppose that this question is being asked concerning a Sermon that I’ve preached. Well, I suppose the most effective Sermon that I preach is, "I Am What I Am Only By The Grace Of God." I call that my "Testimony Message", because it simply shares where God has brought me from and it helps to provide a better insight into the power of the Grace of God.
  • Family: During my years of addiction, many things were left in ruins. My marriage was one of those things. My wife divorced me, which is shared in my testimony, however I have a beautiful 14 year old daughter, who travels with me, when she is able and she also sings and records with me now. I’m so proud of her and so grateful that she is living for the Lord and has a desire to do a work for His Kingdom!
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My parents are very proud, if I can use that term, of me and of what God has done in my life. I receive all sorts of praise from them, especially my Mom. She’s always telling me how good my messages are and how my delivery is so effective and of course, that makes me feel good too. My Dad does the same, but he also gives me some pointers. He, very kindly, will give me a little direction at times and I’m so grateful for it. I consider my Dad to be one of the greatest preachers that I’ve ever heard and that’s not the son in me speaking, that’s the fellow preacher in me observing. I preach at their church in Mississippi quite often and it’s always a blessing and honor.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: I’ve been given a lot advice, from many different preachers, but I suppose that the one that has always stuck with me was this. I had an elderly pastor, with whom I’m great friends and preach for often, who told me early on, not to ever get to big to cry in the pulpit. He told me to always be transparent and humble and real. I’ve never forgot that and I strive to stay that way, because I don’t ever want my flesh to get in God’s way.
  • Books that have had an impact: That’s extremely easy. The Bible is the book that has had the biggest impact on me, by far. There is no other book that can even compare to the written Word of God.
  • Hobbies: I don’t know whether or not I would call it a hobby, but the 2 things that I love to do most are sermon building and song writing. When I get an idea or a directed thought in my mind, I have to build on it. I’m amazed at how God can take a mind, that was once burnt from drug and alcohol abuse and direct thoughts into it, that will help to change the lives of others and cause them to seek after His face. I also enjoy building websites. I built mine at www.robbiebankens.org.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: My friend, I could tell you all sorts of things at this moment, which may sound nice and may even have a wonderful message, but I simply want to say that 100 years from this moment, where will you be? You want be here. You may not be here in 100 seconds from now, but you’ll most definitely be gone in 100 years and that’s not a long time. My friend, 100 years from this very moment, there is nothing else gonna matter, except, what you did concerning your relationship with Jesus. If you will live every moment, as though it were your last, you will have no worries about eternity, because knowing it’s your last moment, I’m confident that you will give Him your all.
