• One of my favorite illustrations: Two 9 year old boys were playing outside. Anthony went to church each week with his parents. Ty had never been in church. Anthony invites Ty to go to church with him. One Sunday they are both in church with Anthony's parents. The worship leader asked everyone to open their hymnal to page 93, which had the hymn "Have Thine Own Way." Ty asks his friend "what's the pastor doing with that book?" "Anthony says the book contains the lyrics and music notes that help us worship God through music. A few minutes later Ty asks "what does it mean when the pastor bows his head and starts talking? Anthony says the Pastor is going to talk with God. Ushers pass out the offering plates. Ty wants to know what these gold colored plates are for. Anthony says that people bring their tithes and offerings for the church to use in serving others. Finally, the pastor gets up to the podium to preach. Then the pastor removes his watch and places it on the podium. Ty asks what this means. Anthony lowers his head and slowly moves it from side to side. He looks at and answers "absolutely nothing.!"
• What my parents think of my sermons: Both of my parents and my wife's parents are deceased. However, both sets of parents told me numerous times they thought my sermons were very good.
