About Mike
  • Education: As a man who was saved as an adult already in the workforce, I earned my ministerial credentials through the Wesleyan Ministerial Studies program which was a combination of off-site and on site training over the course of several years. I am currently pursuing courses through the Vineyard Institute and my goal is to attend Ashland Theological Seminary in order to achieve a M.A. in Kingdom Studies over the next few years.
  • Experience: I served as senior pastor of Dice Wesleyan Church in Freeland, MI from 2000 to 2006 before attending New Life Vineyard in Midland, MI. Prior to my ministry at Dice, I served as a Church Planter (Mt. Pleasant, MI as worship leader), Assistant Pastor (1999-2000 at Faith Wesleyan in Midland, MI).
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: What you reading is my heart. I preach not to impress nor offend, yet I suppose both happen (more the latter than the former). I preach for one reason only and that is to be faithful to the calling placed on me by the One who loved me enough to die for me. I could do no less and live with myself. I desire that my heart would resonate witht the heart of God so when you read my heart, you will be reading a reflection of God’s heart.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: It was used by Rick Warren in "The Purpose Driven Church" and the point was that there are only two things we can to on earth that we won’t be able to do in heave. 1) Sin and 2) Win the lost. And he asks the question, "which do you think God has left us to do?" Powerful!
  • Family: I became a born-again Christian on March 20th, 1994. On Easter (two weeks later) I met the woman who would become my life-partner for the past 20+ years. We were married in 1995 and have three boys. We reside in Freeland, Michigan.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: When they visit, I think they’re proud.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: I wish I knew!(kidding) She seems to enjoy them and she will let me know if I blew it somewhere. She’s really good about that. Also, she won’t let me preach it to her before Sunday so she can experience it just like everybody else. I have to find somebody or something to practice on!
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: To summarize it would be, "Don’t search the world and move the Word; search the Word and move the world!"
  • Books that have had an impact: (Besides the Bible, of course) Power Evangelism (Wimber/Springer) The Gospel of the Kingdom (Ladd) A Theology of the New Testament (Ladd) Systematic Theology (Grudem) The Five Levels of Leadership (Maxwell)
  • Hobbies: I enjoy playing guitar, playing video games, Detroit Sports, watching anything Star Wars related.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: God believes in do overs!
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I was trying to say "King James Version" but it came out "King James VIRGIN". After about five minutes of cracking up we all got back on track.
  • What I want on my tombstone: No reserve, no retreat and no regrets. - Bill Borden

Motives are critical! An elderly man on the beach found a magic lamp. He picked it up and a genie appeared. "Because you have freed me," the genie said, "I will grant you a wish."
