About Michael
  • Education: Studied one half year at Hyles/Anderson College in Schereville, IN. 3 years at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, FL. No degree. Have educated self in the original languages of the Scriptures and in conservative theology through a wide range of authors, both godly men of the past and godly men currently preaching the gospel.
  • Experience: Surrendered to the Gospel ministry in April 1970 at the age of 14 1/2 years. Began pastoring as associate pastor, preaching one service per Sunday from 1971-1974. Attended college from 1975-77. Married in June, 1977, called to first full time pastorate and ordained in October, 1977. Served as pastor of Success Baptist Church, Saucier, MS 1977-1980; Served as Pastor of Bethel Bible Church, Saucier, MS 1980-81; Serving as Pastor of Morris Chapel Baptist Church, Morris Chapel, TN 1981-current.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: "Whom Shall We Send and Who Will Go For Us?" (Isaiah 6) "Jeremiah, What Seest Thou?" (Jer. 1) "That I May Know Him" (Phil. 3:10) "Working With the Father Where the Father is at Work" (John 5:17-19)
  • Family: Happily married, once, for 38 years to one wife. The wife and I have 2 children, the oldest a daughter, the youngest a son. Both have been saved and baptized. Daughter is married to a dynamic Christian man who is set aside to be a deacon at their church. They have one son, 8 years of age who recently received Christ into his heart and whom I will baptize at their church later this month with the blessing and approval of his pastor.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "Make certain your sermon is nothing less than a definite word from God, based definitely on the Word of God, the Bible. Get that word from God while in conference with God, listening to what God has to say to you after you have poured your heart out to God on behalf of your people and yourself. Note what you visualize and what you think as you pray, write it down or record it immediately! Ask the Lord to help you organize those thoughts into a hearable and do-able sermon."
  • Books that have had an impact: "This is My Story" Dr. W.A. Criswell; "The Criswell Handbook for Pastors" Dr. W.A. Criswell; "Experiencing God; Knowing and Doing the Will of God" Dr. Henry Blackaby; Countless books by Spurgeon and Criswell, too numerous to title.
  • Hobbies: Wood working, horticulture, vegetable gardening, genealogy.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Live every day as though it will count for everything one hundred years from today! The only thing that will matter at all one hundred years from today is what we did with Jesus Christ on that day. How much have we done alone and how much have we done with Jesus? Following Jesus means walking with Jesus, doing what Jesus does, saying what Jesus says, being Who Jesus is; as much as is possible in our robe of fallen flesh.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Victory in Jesus
