About Matt
  • Education: I have an MDiv from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary 2001, B/S from Campbellsville University, I have also completed a program through the University of Dayton in Special Education.
  • Experience: I pastored churches in Nebraska, IN; Silver Grove, KY. I was Small Group Minister at Mentor Baptist in Mentor, KY. I am currently a church planter in my home neighborhood in Newport, KY.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I just want you to feel free to use what you can and make it your own. I milk many cows but churn my own butter. All I ask is properly source your materials, even though as Solomon states, “There is nothing new under the sun.” If I have personal stories substitute them with a similar experience from your own life. Don’t try and live my experience through your words.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: Anything that is truth and challenging, especially from my pastor before I was called into the ministry.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: I like anything that sheds light on the scripture being expounded upon.
  • Family: I am married to my wonderful wife Tina and have two adult children, Joshua Matthias and Katherine Lee.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: KISS - Keep it simple stupid. Plus always let the Bible speak for itself. Don't speak for the Bible.
  • Books that have had an impact: The Bible, Cost of Discipline - Bonhoeffer, S.H.A.P.E. - Erik Rees, Crazy Love - Francis Chan, The Conviction to Lead - Al Mohler, Ninja Church Planter - Peyton Jones, When God Builds a Church - Bob Russell, All In - Mark Batterson
  • Hobbies: Reading anything and walking with my wife. Sermon Illustration Hunting.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: That Jesus loves you know matter what you may be experiencing. He died to take your place in suffering and to provide you will salvation. Not only did he die for you he rose again on the third day to defeat death. Trust Him.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He's Alive!
