About Mark
  • Education: I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University (1979) and Asbury Theological Seminary (1982).
  • Experience: I have served churches in Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan. I have also written for our denomination’s Sunday School and publishing departments.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: THEY SOUND BETTER LIVE! One of my preaching heros -- Dr. Jimmy Johnson -- said, "If everything that happens in your worship service can be captured on a tape, you’re in trouble!" I believe there is a dynamic difference between the live proclamation of a sermon and the dead record on a computer screen. When I read another preacher’s sermons I assume the living presentation carried the Holy Spirit’s power. Please do the same for me. Thanks.
  • Family: I’m happily married since 1978. We have three daughters and three very special granddaughters.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Be biblical and practical while keeping it short and simple.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Followed Jesus, Loved his family, Shepherded his church

Me (my dilemma or question) One Sunday morning, an old cowboy entered a church just before services were to begin. I want more than doubts and questions.

Me (my dilemma or question) I have a confession to make this morning. Recently when the State Police announced they would no longer grant a 7 mph cushion when clocking speeds on the highways, I was frustrated. I slowed down a little in order to keep my speed at the limit, but I didn’t like ...read more

You and I live in a world where each person wants to take and to accumulate. But Jesus came into the world to give, to sacrifice and to provide more than we can ever need.

It’s really easy to hang out on the fringe of the crowd around Jesus. You could settle for being a spectator merely watching Jesus work in and through others. Or you can experience an exciting life of significance as you follow Jesus and see him work in
