• Education: Undargraduate degree from Furman University in Greenville, SC. with a major in English and a minor in Religion. Post graduate work in Education at Wayne State U. in Detroit. Further post-graduate work in counseling at UNC-Chapel Hill
• Experience: Fifty-eight years of joyful, loving pastoral experience, (Except for two retirement periods of three years total.)
• Family: Lionel and Avanelle are proud parents of four married childdren who are all Christians---ten grandchildre, four great-grands. This is a very-close knit family---a great musical/singing family.
• What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She says that I am a great preacher---better than most--and then offers her criticism.
• Best advice given to me about preaching: Keep it simple (even when the subject is "deep.") Speak "up" and enunciate clearly. Pray for some genuine passion and compassion. Allow some freedom to deviate from the planned content.

• Hobbies: Books, Children, Boating. Books, Boating and Children. (Taught scores of church-kids to water ski over the years) I as always an active and interested participant in the lives of my own children. Enjoyed softball when I was younger.
• What I want on my tombstone: "I fought a good fight. I kept the faith."
