About Leslie
  • Education: Bachelors from Houston Baptist University in Psychology & Christianity, Masters of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in Hebrew & Old Testament; Electronic Technical Certification from US Signal School; Also, have a lot of engineering and science background, having been in that area before ministry
  • Experience: About 20 years of pastoral ministry before retiring.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Most of my sermons need illustrations added to them. One of my sermons could give you meat for 10 sermons. Each Text in my sermon was translated from the Hebrew or Greek by me and I consider them to be very accurate textually. Anytime, I could not arrive at an understandable translation I would give way to the text of an English translation, but that is rare. I have sometimes spent over 30 days considering a text.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: WA Criswell's sermons;
  • One of my favorite illustrations: Is concerning light shining in darkness and our ability to see the truth. There is truth out there, but do we really have enough light to see the truth. A car's headlights shines into the dark as you drive down the road, but its light is limited, there will be times when you run over things in the road because your vision is limited by the light available to you. But as a Christian your ability to see is only limited by your prayer life and your time in the Word of God.
  • Family: I have a family of seven. Three of the seven have now left home. Still have a 16 year old and a 12 year old.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My mother has gone on to be with the Lord, but it was one of my sermons that caused my mom to start seeking God.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She thinks I am the best preacher she has ever heard, but she is my spouse. She grew up under WA Criswell so think she may be guilty of lying.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Put seminary behind you and get about with the ministry of God.
  • Books that have had an impact: There are a whole lot of good Christian books out there, but the books that have had the most impact on me are books of science. True science, such as math, chemistry, & physics. If you use the Bible as a basis for all science, you can arrive at the truth. There are things you can see in nature that are not seen in the Bible, but they will never disagree with the Bible. If they do, then I doubt there scientific validity.
  • Hobbies: Tennis, snow skiing, Flying, mechanics, woodworking, telling people about Jesus.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: If you want to know if God is real or not, just go to your closet and pray about everything in your life for a month, If you do not know if God is real or not by then, the chances are you will never know.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: One day I was preaching and in the middle of the sermon a lady on the front row jumped up an ran out of the sanctuary and did not return until the sermon was over. I thought I had really offended her. As it turned out, she was a nursing mother and when I had imitated a baby crying in my sermon, her milk started to flow and she ran out quick before it became obvious.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He taught his children to teach their children the truth of God's Word
