About Kevin
  • Education: My education is in the area of graphic design. CCS in Detroit
  • Experience: I have been preaching and teaching since 1996. I have been a teaching elder at Mt. Pleasant Bible Church since 2001.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: My prayer is that you would hear the voice of God and not of Kevin Hoffman. That His Word would be preeminent and that it would cause you to know Him better and love Him more!
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: John Piper’s sermons on marriage.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: While preaching on the Triumphal Entry; Are you the disciple who may not understand everything, but are in a close enough relationship to Christ that you will submit to Him in love, trusting Him for the results? He went and took someone else’s donkey just because Jesus said to. Hey, run over to the Ford dealer and grab the keys to a new Mustang and bring it to me. If the salesman asks just tell him that I need it. Kind of crazy huh? Jesus won’t tell you to do that today... He will tell you not to cheat on your taxes or your wife. Not to spend money on wants when you can’t meet your needs. To turn off the TV and open your Bible. To trust Him in your situation with your family, finances, faith
  • Family: Husband to Rhonda for 16 years and father to three great children ages 15, 14 and 12. We are a home school family and are very active in our church and other ministries.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My mom says that she has learned a lot from them. My dad lives in Florida and has not heard me preach
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My wife also says that she has learned a lot from them. I am sure that she would like me to be a little lighter at times. Sometimes I can be a little intense.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Your family comes first!
  • Books that have had an impact: The Reformed Pastor by Richard Baxter Thinking Spiritually by John Owen The Mortification of Sin in the Believer by John Owen Christ a Complete Savior by John Bunyan The History of Redemption by Jonathan Edwards On Keeping the Heart by John Flavel
  • Hobbies: Reading old books, especially the Puritans. Studying Church History and Apologetics. Paintball with my children and other youth.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: 2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. The Gospel!
  • What I want on my tombstone: Did I do my best to live for truth, when its all been said and done?

What does it mean to be an ambassador for Christ?

I was raised a heathen and for the first 27 years of my life I lived as one. God saved me at that point through the personal witness of a couple of people that He had brought into my life at the right time for the circumstances that He had allowed to come to pass which prepared me for that ...read more
