About Jimmy
  • Education: Bachelor of Arts from Millsaps College and Masters of Divinity from The Methodist Theological School in Ohio
  • Experience: I Pastored for 16 years in Mississippi, and then took 10 years off. I am now back in a part-time Charge preaching at Three churches each Sunday. I believe the Lord is leading me back to full time service in the next couple of years.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I hope you will see I am an Evangelical at heart, and feel the preaching of Jesus as Savior is the utmost priority.
  • Family: I am married with four children and two grandchildren.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My Mother was my speech teacher in High School She was always my biggest critic, and yet also my biggest fan. She loved to hear me speak because she felt I had a prescence in the pulpit. But she was also quick to tell me if she did not think I had been properly prepared.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My wife loves my sermons. She better, she has to listen to them three times every Sunday. She is very supportive of my minitry, but will never tell me what I should say.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Lear to listen to the people.
  • Books that have had an impact: Dont Call me Preacher and Six days and Sunday.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Every day could be your last day on earth. Dont wait until tomorrow to be ready, for today could be the day Jesus returns for YOU.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I was in my first Sunday at a new church, and they gave me a cordless microphone to use. We wore robes and were about to go in, when one of the ladies noticed, I had not zipped up my robe all the way. She came over, and said, Brother Jimmy, Let me zip up your zipper before we go into church. Then, we remembered the cordless mic. We were not sure if it was on, but a lot of people where smiling when we entered the church.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He extended the hand of Christ. to all.

I have shared a few other memories of my trip to Israel. We were in Israel for two weeks, which included two weekends. During that time we experienced two days of “Shabbat” which of course is the Sabbath. For Jews, the new day actually begins with sunset. So, the Shabbat began about 6:00 on ...read more
