About Eleanor
  • Education: RN BSN
  • Experience: 45 years in nursing; 25 years as pastor
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I listen to sermons, study sermons, and read books on sermons. I never deliberately plagiarize - however, it is quite possible to find thoughts and phrases in my sermons from greater/smarter ministers than I. Consider that the Holy Spirit brings thoughts to my mind as I write my sermons. So, if you see something in my sermons that you originated, praise God that it was of such value that it was passed on, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to a broader audience than your specific congregation.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: A sermon years ago by H.M.S. Richards of the first religious radio program "It Is Written" entitled 'My Job.' In this sermon he pointed out that it didn't matter in what profession we chose to earn our living--our 'job' was to be loyal in service to Jesus Christ 24/7. I've never forgotten 'my job' since that sermon!
  • One of my favorite illustrations: My favorite: 'It doesn't matter what I think; it doesn't matter what YOU think; it only matters what the Word of God says!"
  • Family: Large Italian Catholic Family background
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My parents did not live to see me transition from being a medical professional speaker to a speaker for the Lord.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Being a woman, in a church that refuses to 'Ordain' women, I was not interested in preaching. However, as a nurse-educator, I spent 18 years as an international speaker/writer for the Mosby Book Company. My husband frequently said, 'When I pray, I feel God telling me the you are to speak for Him.' To which I always replied, 'Then, let God tell ME and not my husband!' Then a situation occurred when a scheduled speaker broke her leg and I was pressed into standing in front of 5,000 people at a church convocation and speaking in her place. My remarks were published and played on a Christian radio station. I took that as a sign that God, indeed, could use me. My husband, my two children and my 3 grandchildren are my greatest supporters and are always on the front pew when 'Gigi' speaks!
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Never step into the pulpit until you have repented of EVERY sin.
  • Books that have had an impact: Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis who said: "There is no neutral ground in the universe. Every square inch and every split second is claimed by God and counter-claimed by Satan."
  • Hobbies: Studying and reading
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Heaven! Don't miss it for the world!
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I was preaching in El Salvador with a translator. I got a bit carried away and accidentally said, 'DAVID in the lion's den!' The translator looked at me in surprise and said, "WAS DAVID WITH DANIEL IN THE LION'S DEN?' Which brought a large chuckle from those in the audience who understood a modicum of English!
  • What I want on my tombstone: "See you in the morning!"
