  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I attempt to make clear the main point of the passage I am preaching on and I am not afraid to load my sermons up with scripture. The reading of Scripture transforms us into His image.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: On the gospel of Mark over the course of 2 years.
  • Family: 3 grown children
  • What my parents think of my sermons: They are my biggest fans.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My ex-spouse has gone on to be with the Lord. I am not remarried. But my friends are inspired by what I preach.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Take responsibility for yourself.
  • Books that have had an impact: So many over the years. I'm gaining a lot of insight from N. T. Wright, and Scott McKnight. The First Nations translation of the New Testament by Terry Wildman (IVP) is healing my soul.
  • Hobbies: Being outdoors, working on projects around the house, reading.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Believe in Jesus, follow him and cling to him.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: A friend agreed with me and said "She's right," after I said, "I'm no good at directions." Everyone laughed and it set the tone for the whole service.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Never give up.

Having not grown up in the church tradition of Ash Wednesday and Lent, I had a lot of questions about what repentance as a practice could add to my devotion to Christ. I outline 3 benefits of repentance which helps us participate in God's salvation for his children.

If you spend any time with preschool age children, 3 year olds, 4 year olds, one thing they are known for is asking questions. They are at the age when the world is opening up to them. All day long they point and ask, What’s that? If you say a word they don’t know, which is most of the time, they ...read more

One of the greatest science-fiction movie scenes of all time is the scene from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, in which Luke Skywalker, the young hero of the rebel forces, the man in whom we are putting all our hope, confronts and duels the leader of the evil and oppressive Empire, Darth Vader. ...read more

How did Jesus coming as a baby mean that there would be peace on earth and goodwill for us? My journey through Advent has brought me back to the manger where God shows up in the flesh, where the God-Man is all potential, just lying there. It's an offer. It's an invitation.

Babies change everything, or at least a lot of things change for a family when a baby is born. For mothers, a selfless devotion to her child kicks in. Life revolves around what the baby needs, not her own needs. New fathers find a place in their hearts that was not there before. A sense of pride ...read more
