About Chad
  • Education: I received my degree from Central Chrsitian College of the Bible in Moberly, MO in Youth Ministry and Bible.
  • Experience: I have 7 years of youth ministry experience (which means I have a little bit of experience in everything under the sun!), and 4 years pulpit experience. I began my ministry here in Oak Grove on Easter Sunday, 2005.
  • Family: I am married to Nancy (Davis) from Vandalia, MO, whom I met at bible college in 1995. We have one daughter, Hannah Michelle, who was born February 26, 2001 in West Plains, MO., and one son, Evan Doyle, who was born on January 26, 2004 in ZSt. Jospeh, MO. Both sets of our parents are active in the ministries of our home churches.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My parents have always been supportive of my minstry, and have never been short on supportive compliments and honest critiques.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: I haven’t put her to sleep yet!
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "Don’t fluff it: Give it to them straight, even if it means you have to stomp on their toes." "If you preach the Word, and they reject you, they’re really rejecting God!"
  • Books that have had an impact: "The Externally Focused Church" by: Rick Rusaw "Antagonists In The Church" by: Kenneth Haugk "One Size Doesn’t Fit All" by Gary McIntosh "The Second Coming of the Church" by George Barna
  • Hobbies: I love to read, debate, fool around on the computer, and target shoot (large bore pistol, small bore rifle, and compound bow) I’m also an avid postage stamp collector, and a pretty good history buff.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Matthew 28:19-20
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: Slammed hand down, and launched a pen off of the pulpit and onto the lady sitting at the piano and made her yelp!
  • What I want on my tombstone: Temporary Resting Place of Chad R. Martens
