About Brian
  • Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree from Free Will Baptist Bible College, Nashville, Tennessee, 1978, double major in Bible and Pastoral Administration. Master of Arts Degree from North Alabama Christian College, 2004, in Biblical Studies.
  • Experience: Pastor here at Pathway since 1995. Twelve years pastor at Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church, Wabash, Indiana.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Hopefully you will find something in my sermons that will bless you. That is my prayer. I know God blesses me when I prepare them!
  • Family: My wife Debbi and I have been married for 29 years. Our three children are graduates of Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee (where Deb and I met) and are currently involved in Christian service. Our oldest daughter, Brooke, and her husband Matthew Turnbough, are serving the church in Spain. Our son Brandon is a youth and worship pastor in New Castle, Indiana. Our youngest daughter, Bethany teaches tenth-grade English at Donelson Christian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee and her husband David Lytle has recently completed work on his Master’s Degree at MTSU.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My father died when I was 15 and never had a chance to hear me preach. Addiction to alcohol claimed his life. My mother died when I was 25 and was very complimentary of my sermons as a young pastor. I’m now 50.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Deb says I am her favorite preacher and she never fails to tell me how much she got out of the sermon. God answered my prayers for a good partner in ministry on so many different levels.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Saturate with scripture. Be practical. Be authentic/transparent.
  • Books that have had an impact: "No Perfect People" by John Burke; "A Long Obedience in the Same Direction - Discipleship in an Instant Society" by Eugene H. Peterson; "Foxe’s Christian Martyrs of the World" by John Foxe; "God’s Smuggler" by Brother Andrew; "Hearing God" by Peter Lord; "Loving God" by Chuck Colson; "That Incredible Christian" by A. W. Tozer; "The Crises of the Christ" by G. Campbell Morgan; "The Mind of Christ" by T. W. Hunt; "The Words and Works of Jesus Christ" by J. Dwight Pentecost; "Tortured For Christ" by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand; "To the Golden Shore - The Life of Adoniram Judson" by Courtney Anderson; and "1776" by David McCullough, to name a few.
  • Hobbies: Buying, selling, trading, and collecting used books. Play tennis, softball, volleyball, and enjoy taking long walks or riding bicycles with my wife.
  • What I want on my tombstone: Christ-follower, good husband & dad, good pastor, lover of good books!
