  • One of my favorite illustrations: Mind the light, Kate!
  • Family: God has blessed me with a wife and two children.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Dad loved reading them. I am not sure how much he enjoyed listening to them.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She says they are good...even after almost 30 years of marriage.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: "Lord fill my lungs with worthwhile stuff and nudge me when I’ve said enough."
  • Books that have had an impact: Joining Jesus On His Mission
  • Hobbies: Hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors!
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Remain in Christ alone!
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: When I had "Amen" in my sermon theme an elderly man kept trying to stand up when I repeated the theme. Thinking the sermon was over. Rookie mistake! The theme was, "Forever with the Lord, Amen, So Shall it Be!"
  • What I want on my tombstone: Jesus Lives and So Will I!

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit have saved us and now welcome us into the family of God. That’s a powerful point for us to take with us this Trinity Sunday. We are sanctified by the Spirit. We are children of the Father. We are siblings with the Son.

“Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.” That’s how the creation account in Genesis 1 describes God’s decision to create human beings. And then on the sixth day of creation week that is exactly what he did. Of course, Genesis 2 gives us more detail about the “process” that God went ...read more

In these verses we find some awesome truths about our baptism. We are told that we should count ourselves “dead to sin” but “alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

It said to have happened in Texas when parts of the state were still considered the frontier, or the wild west. A preacher went traveling among the pioneers and settlers. In a small frontier town he shared the Gospel, and of course, he offered baptism to anyone who wanted it. Most of the town’s ...read more

It’s that time of year once again. December 31st brings reflections on a year that is ending. There may be anticipation mixed with some anxiety for a new year that is just beginning. If we really want to keep our New Year’s resolutions we need to learn God’s way of making changes in our lives.

Although Luke’s account of the shepherds going to see baby Jesus is filled with familiar details, the thread that ties the whole thing together is what the shepherds were told about the child. We hear that connection three times in these verses.

“Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” Those words spoken by the shepherds on the first Christmas Eve are familiar to us. An angel of the Lord had brought them “good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” And the angel told ...read more

  • Consider The True Glory Of Our King!

    Contributed on Oct 23, 2023

In His "state of humiliation" as theologians say, Jesus' glory was most deeply hidden! Through these verses from Colossians we are invited to see the true glory of King Jesus!

“Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” All four of the Gospel writers (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) tell us about the written notice of the charge against Jesus—and for which Pontius Pilate crucified him. It’s a small but important detail from the Friday that we call good. Does anyone ...read more
