About Lauri
  • Education: Received a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management from Virginia University of Lynchburg and currently studying for a Masters of Urban Ministry at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.
  • Experience: Pastoral Assistant since 2010, Music Ministry leader, choir director, church school teacher, Executive Council Chair, Youth advisor, Minister of Ministries for Community Baptist Church
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Thank you for taking time to look, and I appreciate any helpful comment.
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: "It's time to be real", a sermon delivered by my Pastor in 1994. This message helped me hear clearly the call to service.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: "Going to church every week makes you no more of a Christian than going to a garage every day makes you a car." the late Rev. Robert L. Williams, circa 1985
  • Family: Married to Kenneth Johnson, the mother of two Lauren and Robert.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: They know it's a gift from God, because they know me.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: Loves it when I allow God to use me.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Stand up, speak up, shut up and sit down. Be clear, concise and confident. All roads lead to Calvary.
  • Books that have had an impact: Hinds feet in high places. The Bible
  • Hobbies: Reading, singing, laughing
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Jesus loves you just as you are, and loves you too much to leave you that way.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: I learned I can't preach and read at the same time. I have to do one or the other.
  • What I want on my tombstone: She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind and soul and love her neighbor as herself.
