About Toby
  • Education: B.S. Business Management, Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow, The American College, Bryn Mawr, PA Financial Services Specialist, The American College, Bryn Mawr, PA
  • Experience: I have been preaching since 1989, pastoring since 1992, and working in missions since 1995. God has allowed me to serve as pastor of two churches, plant one church, serve as a member and president of a board of missions, and work for 11 years in the prison mission field in addition to my pastoral work. It has been my pleasure to work in revival meetings and campmeeting services in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Missiouri, and in Hondurous.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I have had the blessing of being around great men of God... some of them in my own family. Most everything that I have learned has come from them. I hope you can use these things and be blessed the same as the Lord blesses me. I have nothing original... It is from the Bible. It is the Lord’s property, but he has used many avenues to get the information to me. So, you use it as you can. One man said it this way, "I don’t milk my own cows, but I do make my own butter."
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: The sermon that has more impact on my life that any other I have ever heard was preached by Evangelist Terry Pace of Scottsboro, Alabama. He preached from Acts 20:20 where Paul declared that he "kept back nothing." I have tried to live my life keeping back nothing from my Savior.
  • Family: I have a lovely wife named Sonia to whom I have been married since we were just teenagers. The Lord has blessed us with three beautiful girls. We have the privilege to serve the Lord together for his glory. Thank God for a Christian home!
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My parents are old-time Christians. My dad is a preacher’s son, and five generations of men in his family before him were ministers as well. They have always been quite supportive and prayed fervently for their children.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: My wife has been faithful to support me every step of the way. She and I married after I started preaching, and she has always supported me strongly.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: Do not base your success on the results of your ministry. Base it on your faithfulness to God and his plan for your life. You can not control what people do with your preaching. You can control what you preach to them. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Noah, Amos all had few converts, but they were great successes before the Lord in faithfulness. The Gospel is a proclaimation, not a plea.
  • Books that have had an impact: Why Revival Tarries, Leonard Ravenhill
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: It always pays to serve the Lord.
  • What I want on my tombstone: HE KEPT BACK NOTHING

This experience of Elijah's life is probably the most ignored or overlooked mountain of his experience with God, but it is an essential one. It is a lesson in how God separates a believer unto himself.

ELIJAH AT CHERITH I Kings 17:1-7 Intro: Elijah is one of the greatest characters to study in the Word of the Lord. He is the man who embodies the office of the Old Testament prophet more than any other. He is the foreshadowing of John the Baptist. He was not an Israelite Aristocrat, but he was a ...read more
