This sermon explores God's promise of renewal, His power to revive our spiritual dryness, and the joy found in obedience to His vision.
Good morning, beloved family in Christ. It is a joy to be in God’s house and to share in fellowship with you all. Today, we find ourselves standing at the precipice of a profound passage of Scripture, a passage that holds a promise, a battle, and a call to obedience. We are about to enter into the valley of dry bones. A place that, though seemingly desolate and lifeless, is teeming with God's promise of renewal, His power to enliven our dryness, and His vision for our obedience.
Charles Spurgeon, a man of great faith and wisdom, once said, "It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness." This quote, my dear friends, is a beacon that illuminates our path today, guiding us towards a deeper understanding of our Scripture's message. It is not about the abundance of what we have in our lives, but the depth of our enjoyment in God's promises, our battle against life's dryness, and our obedience to His vision that truly brings us joy and satisfaction.
Let us now turn our hearts to the Word of God as we read Ezekiel 37:1-14:"The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, 'Son of man, can these bones live?' I said, 'O Sovereign LORD, you alone know.' Then he said to me, 'Prophesy to these bones and say to them, 'Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.' So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, 'Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live.' So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army."
Let us bow our heads in prayer. Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word, a light unto our path, a beacon in our darkness. As we delve into this passage, we ask for Your Spirit to guide us, to illuminate the truths You want us to grasp, to comfort us in our battles, and to inspire us in our obedience. We ask this in the beautiful and matchless name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
In the heart of the valley, amid the dry bones, we find a promise. A promise from the Sovereign Lord, a promise of renewal. It is a promise that breathes life into the lifeless, that brings hope to the hopeless.
The valley of dry bones may seem like a place of despair. It may seem like a place of death. But in reality, it is a place of hope. It is a place where God's promise of renewal is made manifest. It is a place where the impossible becomes possible, where the lifeless are brought back to life. This is the power of God's promise. This is the power of His Word.
The promise of renewal is about a spiritual renewal. It is about the renewal of our hearts, our minds, our spirits. It is about the renewal of our relationship with God. It is about the renewal of our faith. It is about the renewal of our joy. It is about the renewal of our peace. It is about the renewal of our life.
The promise of renewal is for the future. It is for eternity. It is a promise that looks beyond the present circumstances, beyond the trials and tribulations, beyond the pain and suffering, beyond the death and decay. It is a promise that looks to the future with hope and anticipation.
