Ps 96:9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

I. Vain Worship

Mt 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

--It is possible to be sincere, but sincerely wrong.

II. Will Worship

Col. 2:21-23

21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;

22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

-voluntary and unwarranted; no one asked you to do it.

III. Obedience is Worship

Gen. 22:5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

Give your future to God and follow Him in radical obedience. That is true worship.

IV. Worship of the Bound

Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

The demoniac ran to Jesus. It may have been due to the battle within himself (like Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde). Or it may have been that the demons had no other option than to acknowledge and bow down before the Lord.

King of the Hill---most all of us guys have played the game with others. This demoniac had been the king of the graveyard for a good while (see v. 4). Then Jesus shows up and steps out of the ship. All of a sudden the opponent had changed. There was no way he was even close to a match to the Son of God. Without even trying for a shoving match, the demoniac fell at the feet of Jesus and surrendered (worshipped). Then he starts whining and complaining, saying, "you are tormenting me" (belittling me).

V. Worship at the Bottom

Matthew 15:22-28 A woman from Canaan. Not from Israel.

She is denied by Jesus at first. She begs for mercy.

In the face of not being helped, she worships.
