You’re My Help, Jesus, You’re My Help

Hebrews 6:1-12

1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

3 And this will we do, if God permit.

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

I have entitled this today: You’re My Help, Jesus, You’re My Help

In Hebrews 6:1 it says, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ;” this is speaking of the first principles which refer to the Old Testament.

Christ is the center piece of the entirety of the Bible.

Then verse one goes on to say, “let us go on unto perfection; and of faith toward God”.

This is speaking of the New Testament Sacrifice of the Lord Jesus, and the Testament that He inaugurated with His work at the cross.

“Not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God”, is referring to Jewish Christians going back to the old sacrifice system.

We no longer have to sacrifice animals for the Atonement of sin, Jesus became the Lamb, the perfect sacrifice that was for all times.

Look at verse 2:

2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Of The Doctrine of baptisms,

Mathew 28:18-20

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The ones who get on us for baptizing this way need to remember what Jesus said, and not take Peters words out of context.

Look at verse 20 one more time, Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

1 Timothy 4:14

14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

This refers to the call of God, and the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon the individual to carry out the call.

The Prophecy verified what the Lord had already done, Paul is reminding Timothy of this verification.

When it says, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery this is referring to pastors at a local church.

We believe in the laying on of hands and we believe that the prayers of righteous individual according to James availeth much.

We believe in the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

We believe in the rapture of the church according to 1 Corinthians 15:12-18.

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
