This sermon emphasizes the importance of consciously choosing to serve Christ daily, understanding the consequences of our choices, and committing to righteousness.
Good morning, dear brothers and sisters in Christ. As we gather together on this beautiful day, let's take a moment to bask in the warmth of God's love, a love that wraps us in its embrace, a love that is steadfast and never failing. We are all here because we have chosen Christ, chosen to accept His love, His grace, His mercy, and His salvation. But this choice isn't a single decision we make; it's a choice we must make every day.
Our Scripture today is from Joshua 24:15. It reads, "But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
In this passage, Joshua presents the people with a choice, a choice that is as relevant today as it was then. Who will you serve? This question rings out, echoing through the ages, resounding in our hearts and minds. This is the question we will grapple with today.
The esteemed Christian author, J.I. Packer once said, "We never move on from the gospel; we move on in the gospel." This profound statement reminds us that our Christian walk is not about leaving the gospel behind as we grow; instead, it's about deepening our understanding and living out the gospel more fully each day.
Today, we will be looking at three main points: Choosing Christ Daily, Consequences of Our Choices, and Commitment to Righteous Choices. As we delve into these topics, let's remember that our walk with Christ is not a static state but a dynamic process. We are not called to a one-time decision but a daily commitment to choose Christ, to choose righteousness, to choose love.
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you for your word which is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. As we reflect on the choice to serve you daily, we ask for your guidance and wisdom. Open our hearts and minds to receive your truth. Help us to understand the gravity of our choices and the impact they have on our lives and those around us. May we be inspired to choose you daily, to commit ourselves to righteous choices, and to serve you faithfully. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
When we wake up each morning, we're faced with countless decisions. Some are small, like what to wear or what to eat for breakfast. Others are larger, like how to respond to a difficult situation at work or how to handle a conflict in a relationship. But there's one decision that's more important than any other, and it's the decision we're faced with every single day: the decision to follow Christ.
Following Christ isn't something we do once and then forget about. It's not a box we check off on a list and then move on. It's a daily commitment, a constant choice. It's choosing to love when it's easier to hate, to forgive when it's easier to hold a grudge, to serve when it's easier to be served.
This daily choice to follow Christ isn't always easy. There are times when it's tempting to choose our own way, to follow our own desires. But the Bible tells us in Proverbs 14:12 that "there is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death." Our own way, our own desires, may seem right in the moment, but ultimately, they lead to destruction. On the other hand, choosing to follow Christ leads to life, both now and for eternity.
Choosing Christ daily means choosing to live according to His Word. It means spending time in prayer and in the Scriptures, seeking His will and His guidance. It means striving to be more like Him in all we do, in all we say, in all we think. Living this way isn't something we can do on our own. We need the Holy Spirit's help. And the good news is, He's more than willing to give it. In fact, He's eager to help us. All we have to do is ask.
Next, choosing Christ daily also means choosing to trust Him, even when we don't understand. It means choosing to believe that He is good, that He is faithful, that He is in control, even when life is hard, even when things don't go as planned.
Finally, choosing Christ daily means choosing to share His love with others. It means choosing to be His hands and feet in the world, to serve and to love as He did.
Transition. Choosing Christ daily is a decision that affects every area of our lives. It's a decision that brings life, peace, and hope. It's a decision that requires commitment, trust, and reliance on the Holy Spirit. It's a decision that allows us to be a part of God's work in the world, to share His love and grace with others. So let's choose Christ today, and every day. Let's choose to follow Him, to live for Him, to serve Him, and to love Him with all that we are.
