In the spiritual battlefield, God views each believer as His weapon. If you have been reborn in faith, you are God's instrument in this war. Understanding this role is crucial for every believer.

Introduction

When a warrior prepares for war, he carefully considers his weapons of warfare. In the same way, God is a warrior, and as a believer, you are His chosen weapon of warfare. If you have been born again, you are God's battle axe.

Scripture Passage

Scripture Passage: Jeremiah 51:20-23 (NIV)

"You are my war club, my weapon for battle— with you I shatter nations, with you I destroy kingdoms, with you I shatter horse and rider, with you I shatter chariot and driver, with you I shatter man and woman, with you I shatter old man and youth, with you I shatter young man and young woman, with you I shatter shepherd and flock, with you I shatter farmer and oxen, with you I shatter governors and officials."

Explanation

God declares in this passage that He will use His people as His battle axe to bring down the enemy. Just as a warrior relies on his weapons, God intends to fight battles through His chosen ones. Being God's battle axe means that He can use you to defeat any enemy that comes against Him.

Consider the example of Moses when he was called to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. God told him, "I have made you like God to Pharaoh" (Exodus 7:1). This means that whatever God would have done Himself to Pharaoh, He would do through Moses. Pharaoh witnessed the power of God working through Moses, even though he couldn't see God directly. People should see the power of God in you as a child of God.

The world we live in is a battlefield filled with darkness. Many Christians have suffered untimely deaths or ended up in hell because they refused to be God's battle axe. Today, you have the opportunity to choose whether you will be God's battle axe or not. The enemies of God are the arch-enemies of His children, and they often target the children when they cannot reach the parents.

Characteristics of a Good Battle Axe

A good battle axe must possess certain qualities to be effective. It should be swift, sharp, strong, and powerful. God expects every Christian to be His battle axe, capable of destroying the kingdom of darkness. The devil is aware of this fact and actively seeks to identify Christians who are not useful or capable of functioning as God's battle axes.

To be a sharp battle axe, you need to be filled with the Word of God. The Word of God is quick, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. It can penetrate deep into the soul and spirit, discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). With the Word of God, you can break down anything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

A battle axe must also be free from rust. Rust in the life of a Christian can take various forms, such as instinctive addictions, disobedience to God's word, pride, or an unhealthy obsession with the opposite sex. Any impurity in heart and actions hinders a person from being a worthy battle axe in God's hands.

Furthermore, a battle axe must pass through fire. Just as an axe is shaped by being heated and hammered, believers also go through trials and hardships that refine and shape them. Although passing through fire may not be pleasant, it ultimately makes a person a better vessel for God's use. Sometimes, these refining experiences may seem confusing until God promotes you to a higher level.

Why Does God Want You to Be His Battle Axe?

The answer lies in our main Scripture passage. God wants you to be His battle axe:

1. To break nations into pieces.

2. To destroy the kingdom of darkness.

3. To defeat demonic agents.

4. To dismantle satanic principles and practices.

To accomplish these tasks, you must be a battle axe in God's hands. Merely attending church is not enough; you must start with a personal encounter with the Lord and grow in your relationship with Him. Keep yourself sharp by immersing yourself in His Word.

Conclusion

As God's battle axe, you have the privilege and responsibility of partnering with Him in His mission to bring down the enemy. Stay sharp, free from impurities, and willing to pass through the refining fires. Remember, if the iron is blunt, it requires more strength to be effective. But with wisdom, which comes from God, you can be a profitable and directed battle axe.

May you always find yourself on the winning side as you fulfill your role as God's battle axe. Shalom!
