Matthew 10:1-8

Matthew 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach , saying , The kingdom of heaven is at hand . 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Introduction: I want you to know this morning that you are a disciple of Christ!

1. Definition: disciple: One who embraces and assists in spreading the teachings of another.

John 13:35 “ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another”

So when Jesus called out the 12 disciples he wasn’t stopping there. He called Joel, Lloyd LaMarsha, Connie, Leroy. I want you to know this morning that you are called!!

Well Pastor, what am I called to do? I’m glad you asked! By looking at our scripture this morning we will see what Jesus has called us to do. But before we go into that you and I must understand that he did not only call us but according to vs.1 He empowered us! ”he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.”

It is so important to us understand the gifts of the Holy Spirit. There are nine gifts of the Holy Spirit

1. The Word of Knowledge

2. The Word of Wisdom

3. The Gift of Prophecy

4. The Gift of Faith

5. The Gifts of Healings

6. The Working of Miracles

7. The Discerning of Spirits

8. Different Kinds of Tongues

9. The Interpretation of Tongues

I will not even defend whether or not they are for today. THEY ARE!

Get in the Word and learn about these gifts. They can be found in 1 Corinthians 12. Then get in a place and start seeking these gifts.

Luke 11:13” If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?”

If we are going to operate as Christ Disciples we must have POWER and that is what these are!!

OK so in our scripture here we see we are to GO! And we are also told what to DO!

Preach

We preach! What do we preach? The kingdom of heaven is at hand! Jesus is coming! You must be ready! My daughter was a disciple of Christ at a very early age. She was too young to read yet before she would go to church or come home from church she would preach. She would say Daddy please come to church Jesus is coming soon and I want you to be in heaven. I was visiting a person one day and his grandson who I know had never been to church at the age of five said Paw “Jesus is coming on a cloud like that one” as he pointed to the eastern sky.

Children have this faith to accomplish things that we as adults are failing at! Why?

We must scream to people Jesus is coming! Jesus is coming! Jesus is coming! And we must do it with power dunamis: (miraculous) power, what is dunamis power? It is Holy Ghost POWER!

physical power, force, might, ability, efficacy, energy, meaning (b) plur: powerful deeds, deeds showing (physical) power, marvelous works.

Not your strength but His! Zachariah 4:6: Not by might nor by power but by my spirit saith the Lord

Heal

8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead,

Come on Pastor can I really raise the dead? No! But Jesus in you can! Lazarus had been in the grave for three days and Jesus shouted with authority: Lazarus come forth. Do you know why he called him by name because if not every person that ever died would have come up out of that grave.

Do you know that one day very soon Jesus is going to appear in the eastern sky?
