You’ve Been Served!! (Hix)

John 13:1-11-Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

2 And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Him,

3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,

4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.

5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.

6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, "Lord, are You washing my feet?"

7 Jesus answered and said to him, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this."

8 Peter said to Him, "You shall never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me."

9 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!"

10 Jesus said to him, "He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you."

11 For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, "You are not all clean."

Peter said to Him, "You shall never wash my feet!"

Peter’s exclamation, whether he knows it or not is more about spiritual cleaning than it is about physical cleaning.

Peter’s statement rings out so true to how we answer Jesus, because we want to be self- sufficient, self –reliant, we hate to admit that we need someone’s help and we sure hate to admit that we have sin in our life, we hate to admit to Him, to ourselves, and to others!!

Our pride so many times keeps us from receiving what Jesus has to offer us!!

Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!"

I want you to recognize that some people you serve are never going to be satisfied, but I also want to notice that Jesus explains to a certain degree what this washing of the feet represents.

Did Peter ever get, did he ever understand what Jesus was teaching?

I believe he did, if you read 1 Peter chapters 1 thru 5, you will see how service to others is a big part of his writings!!

So when we serve others, we need to also guide them to follow Christ, or encourage them to continuing to follow Christ!

In other words teach and serve, serve and teach!

Jesus said to him, "He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean

What does that mean to us?

It means your saved, but you got some areas in your life that needs to be cleaned!!

You’ve gotten dirty because you been walking around in this old world this week!

You lied, you cheated, your lusted, you looked things you shouldn’t have been looking at, you said things you shouldn’t been saying!

You repeated stories you shouldn’t been telling!

Your feet’s dirty

Your tongue dirty

Your mouth’s dirty

Your mind’s dirty

Your eye’s are filthy

Your swift to spread gossip, but your slow to show mercy!!

Jesus is basically saying, “You need a whole bath, you just need to wash of the filth from your daily lives!”

You don’t need to be reborn again after you have been born again, you just need to ask forgiveness for your daily sins!!

Some people repeat a sin time and time again and when they are convicted or confronted about that sin, they will say, “I was born that way!”

I have answer for that…”That’s why we have to be born again!”

This thing about being born again, it’s a process, just like growing up is!

Remember Jesus served because He loved them, the problem is we can serve people and not really love them, if we want to be like Jesus we need to love people, we need to ask for help to love people, because not ever body that God is going to ask you to serve is loveable!
