I. EXORDIUM:
Do you worry or do you pray?
II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
Believers
III. OBJECTIVES:
To make it a habit to pray instead of worrying.
IV. TEXT:
1 Samuel 26:24 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
Now may the Lord value my life, even as I have valued yours today. May He rescue me from all my troubles.”
V. THESIS:
Prioritize praying over worrying.
VI. TITLE:
Worrying Worst Than Death
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Authors: Samuel (Israel's last greatest judge) - some parts of it, Nathan and Gad (1 Samuel 10:25, 1 Chronicles 29:29) and some say it's Anonymous
1 Samuel 10:25 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
Then Samuel told the people what the rights and duties of a king were. He wrote them down on a scroll and placed it before the Lord. Then Samuel sent the people home again.
1 Chronicles 29:29 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
All the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, are written in The Record of Samuel the Seer, The Record of Nathan the Prophet, and The Record of Gad the Seer.
B. Purpose of writing: Account of the history of Israel from 12th to 10th B.C.
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. If we pray, GOD can save us from this attitude.
Troubles causes worries.
"May He rescue me.."
David is praying, instead of getting influenced by all the troubles around him, he prayed instead, yeah, he know King Saul is after his life to kill him, but he's thinking about worrying not his death, and he know his life is in GOD's hands. He prayed instead of worrying.
Luke 17:33 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.
B. GOD can save us from all worries.
"Now may the Lord value my life, even as I have valued yours today."
King David never prayed or asked his life from King Saul but he knew all life is from GOD's hands, David instead prayed to GOD to value his life, because he knew if GOD will not let King Saul kill him, he won't be killed. His life rests on GOD's hands not on the hands of King Saul.
1. If we don't live by faith, it is sin for us.
The world sins terribly, anything is sin for them, no distinction, since they decided in their hearts not to believe to the Only One GOD that can save them, that is the LORD JESUS CHRIST.Anything from them is punishable by death, because they've rejected the solution to the world's sins, that is the LORD JESUS CHRIST. But to us, who have accepted the LORD JESUS CHRIST as LORD, MASTER, GOD and SAVIOR, living by the five senses: (1) sense of touch, (2) sense of hearing, (3) sense of smell, (4) sense of sight, and (5) sense of taste is sin for us. There's a better alternative in using these five senses, we use faith sense, that's the big difference from the world, who live only by these words:"to see is to believe" but problem is even if they see and hear, they still don't believe. The problem is really not on the five senses, the problem is in the faith.
Luke 8:10 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of God. But I use parables to teach the others so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled: ‘When they look, they won’t really see. When they hear, they won’t understand.’
Isaiah 6:9 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
And he said, “Yes, go, and say to this people, ‘Listen carefully, but do not understand. Watch closely, but learn nothing.’
Romans 14:23 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.
James 4:17 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
James 1:6-8 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)
But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.
2. Worrying is not of faith, so therefore, worrying for us (believers) is sin for us. Because you say by your own mouth you believed GOD, but inside your heart you worry, saying our worries are bigger than our GOD, which is exactly the opposite. You are fighting within yourself, you really don't believe that GOD is more than enough to take care of you and your problems for you.
