Last week we talked about unrecognizable Jesus. His coming/birth…His death and resurrection were all prophesied. Yet, many didn’t recognize Him as the Messiah because they didn’t want to acknowledge their sin, nor have their sin exposed. Jesus is unrecognizable to those who choose not to believe. He is undeniable to those who accept and receive Him unto salvation.

John 1:14-18

14 So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

15 John testified about Him when He shouted to the crowds, “This is the One I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for He existed long before me.’”

16 From His abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

17 For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is Himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

Three key verses/truths this morning…

-So the Word became human and made His home among us. Vs. 14

-From His abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. Vs. 16

-He has revealed God to us. Vs. 18

Jesus didn’t come hidden, nor disguised. He came revealing who He was…revealing God to us…revealing His Father’s glory.

John 1:14a

So the Word became human and made His home among us. …

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…

The “Word” is Jesus. Jesus was made human/flesh. Fully man, fully God.

John 1:14a

So the Word became human and made His home among us. …

Jesus physically came and dwelt among us…

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, equal with God, the second person of the Trinity…the One by Whom all things were made, who reigns with God in Heaven, who sits at the right hand of the Father…chose to live here, among us.

Gabriel spoke to Joseph in a dream letting him know Mary was pregnant, not with his child, but from the Holy Spirit…

“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matt. 1:23

Interestingly, Jesus never went by the name Immanuel. But, that’s who He was…and it’s what He did! “God with us”! The King of kings chose to leave His heavenly residence and all that is there, to dwell among us.

Seems like that would be an inconvenience.

We often don’t want to leave our own home just to drive to the store. Now that it gets dark so early, we are often in for the night and it’s only 6 pm!

Jesus never considered leaving Heaven, even with all the suffering He would endure…He never saw that as an inconvenience.

…Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Heb. 12:2

Christ willingly chose to come to earth, live among us, and take on this human body. Why?

Jesus experienced all the things we experience… feelings/emotions, fatigue, hunger, thirst, work, discomfort, pain…if you’ve felt it or experienced it…so did Jesus!

Christ chose to live as man, to experience all that man experiences as our example…

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. Heb 4:15

Why did Jesus come and dwell among us? What purpose does that serve? Be assured, Jesus gets us!

?Some of you worked in the auto shops, or other similar industries. You had engineers in fancy offices telling you how to make their designs work. And, you often wanted to tell them that they didn’t know what they were doing. Imagine engineers out of touch with reality. Same as politicians. Out of touch with the common person. Unable to relate.

Jesus, King of kings, Lord of lords…is never unable to relate! The Creator completely understands His creation!

Philippians 2:7-8

7 Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form,

8 He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Jesus gets you. Jesus understands you and all you are going through!

Best selling Author, Joann Weaver…“Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World…” states well how Jesus relates and understands…

Jesus knew temptation: “He was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan” (Mark 1:13).

Jesus knew poverty: “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head” (Matthew 8:20).
