John 1:6-13

6 God sent a man, John the Baptist,

7 to tell about the Light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony.

8 John himself was not the Light; he was simply a witness to tell about the Light.

9 The one who is the true Light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

10 He came into the very world He created, but the world didn’t recognize Him.

11 He came to His own people, and even they rejected Him.

12 But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God.

13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

“In ancient history we…Caesar had a friend … whom he … gave a magnificent present. But when he offered it, the friend said: "This is too much for me to receive." To which the emperor replied: "But it is not too much for me to give." –unknown

God is offering something beyond our full understanding. Despite being what seems too much to receive…too good to be true…God gave His Son and enabled us to receive His Son, moving us into a covenant relationship with Him.

John 1:9-10

9 The one who is the true Light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

10 He came into the very world He created, but the world didn’t recognize Him.

Unrecognizable Jesus. Jesus should have been recognizable. So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. Gen. 1:27

It seems logical that the created should know/recognize their Creator. Jesus should have been recognized.

Jesus and His coming wasn’t a secret. It was foretold/prophesied…

Virgin Birth - All right then, the Lord Himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call Him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’). Isaiah 7:14

Born in Bethlehem - But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on My behalf. Micah 5:2

Born from the lineage of King David - “For the time is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David’s line. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. Jer. 23:5

Prophesied to come at an exact, appointed time -

Daniel 9:25a

Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a Ruler—the Anointed One—comes. …

“Bible scholars have concluded from much research that, hundreds of years before Jesus was even born, more than 300 prophecies were recorded to tell of His coming, His life and journey to the cross, and the power of His Resurrection.” https://www.crosswalk.com/special-coverage/christmas-and-advent/10-bible-verses-that-prophesy-christ-s-birth.html#:~:text=Bible%20scholars%20have%20concluded%20from,the%20power%20of%20His%20Resurrection.

It was all spelled out! Foretold, not a secret… Where Jesus would be born, How He would be born, to Whom He would be born, When He would be born - If you wanted to know/seek/recognize Jesus…it was all there!

We know when the wise men came looking for Jesus they followed a star… “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw His star as it rose, and we have come to worship Him.” Matt. 2:2

How did they know it was His star? They gathered that from prophecy. They had been looking, waiting, anticipating His “star” to arise… A star will rise from Jacob; a scepter will emerge from Israel. … Num. 24:17a

The Wise men recognized Jesus. They recognized His coming and His Kingship.

Even Herod’s advisors were aware. Remember when Herod asked them ...“Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?” “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they said, “for this is what the prophet wrote: ‘And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah, are not least among the ruling cities of Judah, for a Ruler will come from you who will be the Shepherd for My people Israel.’” Matt. 2:4b-6

Herod’s own “wise men” knew what was foretold, proclaimed, declared. Jesus should never have been unrecognizable!

John 1:10-11

10 He came into the very world He created, but the world didn’t recognize Him.

11 He came to His own people, and even they rejected Him.

Why was Jesus unrecognizable? Because He was rejected. No one will ever find what they are not looking for? You don’t come to know Jesus by accident!!!

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
