Summary: Knowledge and mindfulness of the glorious coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ lead us to deep spirituality.

The coming of Christ is a subject that could stir

the mind of every Christian to imagine the excitement

of going home to heaven and be with the Lord for

eternity. What a blessed hope to every believer living

in this crooked and troubled world. Many believers who

are in their darkest night have an intensified desire

to be in heaven rather than to live in sufferings and

wants. On the other side, many believers living in

carnality are not mindful of going home to heaven

because they are enjoying the pleasures offered by the

world. Whether we like it or not the eminent coming of

our Savior will prevail according to His blessed plan.

In Thessalonians 4:16-18 it is written, For the

Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,

with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of

God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we

which are alive and remain shall be caught up together

with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:

and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore

comfort one another with these words.

In verse 16, the word “himself” assured us of the

certainty of our Lord’s personal coming. It will be a

sudden and glorious event. The miraculous outcome of

this awaited event will be manifested in a great way:

the dead in Christ shall rise first and we which are

alive shall be caught up with them in the air. The

Bible shows us a glimpse and beauty of this future

event that we may ponder in our hearts the love of

Christ for us, sinners, saved by His amazing grace.

Our love and mindfulness for Christ’s coming will

lead us to prepare and to do things that are pleasing

to God. As we look forward to this great day, we will

realize the wonderful impact of our Lord’s coming in

our every day Christian life.

(I) Leads Us To Purity

I Thessalonians 4:1-12

I John 2:28,29 I John 3:1-3

When we are expecting a visitor to come to our

house, we have the instinct to clean and prepare our

house to make it presentable, that we may not be put

to shame the moment our visitor arrives. How much

more, if we know that our Lord comes at any moment. Of

course, we don’t want to be caught unaware living in

sin and be put to an open shame before the holy eyes

of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

(II) Leads Us To More Knowledge

I Thessalonians 4:13-15

Through lack of knowledge, Christians are bound to

the ignorance of men. Apostle Paul perceived the

spiritual needs of the Thessalonians, that is why he

taught them the things they needed to know concerning

the future resurrection of every departed believer.

Every time we study the doctrine of the coming of

Christ, we are really blest by additional knowledge

that comes from the Word of God.

(III) Reminds Us Of Our Glorious Flight To Heaven

I Thessalonians 4:16,17

Our glorious flight to heaven seems unbelievable to

many, but the Bible gives us an assurance so that we,

believers, will not be led by the winds of doubts and

false teaching but be strongly grounded in the Word of

Truth.

(IV) Comforts Us At All Times

I Thessalonians 4:18

We cannot deny the comforting power of the Word of

God especially when we study the awaited coming of

our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The more we ponder

it in our hearts, the more we are comforted. No doubt

Paul said, “Wherefore comfort one another with these

words.”

What a blessed hope we have in Christ. Any moment,

we will be meeting our Savior face to face in the air.

We must not neglect to share the Gospel of Christ to

those people living in darkness and without hope.
