Introduction: Pele’ yo’hetz = Wonderful Counselor ??? ???? Pele” means wonderful, but it goes beyond that. It’s used dozens of times throughout the O.T. and it tends mean “wonderful” in the sense of , “a cut above.” Or, “better than anyone else could expect to do.” Because it usually describes something so great only God can do it, almost all the Bible’s references to pele are referring to God. David says about God, …you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. – Psalm 86:10 And that word “marvelous” is pele.

The counselor here, is not the psychologist/therapist who wants you to search for the inner child, but more of an advisor or analyst/advisor or even a guide; one whom you seek to know what to do. For example, when He spoke with the woman who had been caught in adultery, He didn’t talk about her daddy issues; He told her not to do it anymore. Good advice!
I. The Cured Demoniac
a. When he came to his right mind, he begged to follow Jesus
b. Jesus told him to go home
i. See your family
ii. Tell them what God has done
iii. Catch up and re-establish a relationship
c. The man took Jesus’ advice
II. The Cured Woman
a. Jesus was headed to Jairus’ house
b. While in the crowd, a woman touched the fringe of His garment
c. Jesus stopped and wanted to know who it was
d. After telling Him why, He told her to “go in peace”
i. Perhaps He wanted to make sure she knew it wasn’t a coincidence that she was healed
ii. Perhaps He wanted to validate her sense of dignity and worth
III. The Cured Little Girl
a. While Jesus was STILL TALKING to the woman, it was reported that the little girl had died
b. They told Jairus to not bother Jesus anymore
c. Jesus advised them
i. Don’t be afraid
ii. Believe
d. When they arrived at the house, they laughed at Him when He told them she was only sleeping
e. He raised her from the dead
f. He told them to give her something to eat
Application/Invitation: When you see the Baby Jesus in a Nativity set, think about how He is the Wonder Counselor.
Seek out the wise counsel of Jesus. He advises to come to Him and be saved. That is good advice. For those who already know Him as Savior, each day, seek His advice. Ask Him to see things from His perspective. Ask Him to show you how a conversation can impact somebody’s eternity. Seek Him above all else.
