Summary: That’s Christmas: God got undressed in order to dress Himself with our filthy rags so that we might be dressed with His glory!
(NIV)
What makes this Child born to us such a Wonderful Counselor?
Not only does He know us but “the government will be on His shoulders.” What does that mean? It means that He has the authority to make us what we need to become! Used throughout the history of the Hebrew language, this verb occurs in the Hebrew Old Testament approximately 80 times. It denotes one of honorable rank; one who is suited to stand near princes and kings as their adviser. It is expressive of great wisdom, and of qualifications to guide and direct the human race.
No wonder He says to us:
Isaiah 1:18
18 "Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
(NIV)
Another definition of counselor is one who gives advise in law and manages cases for clients in court. In the United States of America, the term counselor-at-law designates, specifically, an attorney admitted to practice in all courts of law. A counselor recognizes what you’ve done and knows the requirements of the law and is prepared to stand in your defense.
Civil cases are labeled “Jackson vs. Johnson” or “Smith vs. Jones”. When crimes against the state or city are involved, you may hear, “The People vs. Sims” or “The City of Bossier City vs. Higgenbothem”. But at the final judgment, every case will be “God vs. I”. And this court is already in session!
You see, your sin and mine has wronged God and we stand guilty before Him.
Romans 3:10-18
10 As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."
13 "Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit." "The poison of vipers is on their lips."
14 "Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."
15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 ruin and misery mark their ways,
17 and the way of peace they do not know."
18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."
(NIV)
It does no good to compare ourselves with others. Everyone is in the same boat!
Romans3:23
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
(NIV)
Since the Court of Heaven is the Highest Court and the Judge’s verdict is final, there will be no appealing His decision!
We have two options: Throw ourselves on the mercy of the court, or Get a good lawyer!
May I recommend to you a good lawyer? One who is better that Kirby Kelly or Morris Bart will ever be! He’s not only a good lawyer, He’s a WONDERFUL one. He stands ready to defend you and has already satisfied the righteous requirements of the law for you.
2 Corinthians 5:21
21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
(NIV)
I John 2:1-2
1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense-- Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
