LESSON # 2 WIVES TOWARD HUSBANDS
1 Pet 3:1-6
1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
(KJV)
The wife is temperamentally, psychotically, and physically suited for her role.
She wants to be loved and protected.
She desires and is entitled to, a voice in matters which concern her; but she yearns for decisive leadership.
She needs sympathy in suffering, and when she receives it from a considerate and loving husband, her endurance is almost limitless.
Appreciation and a feeling that her work is of importance are necessities for her.
And when she enjoys personal feedom, such as the right to go places and having the time to do things of her choice, she responds better to the limitations of her role.
Is this not like the church? Given such a situation, the wife who commits herself to the scriptural pattern of submission is the happiest and most successful.
On the other hand, the wife who succeeds in dominating her husband is the greatest of all failures.
She tends to lose respect for her husband for allowing such behavior.
Then, she defeats herself because she is out of her God given role.
Again, as the church a wife can achieve more through a submissive demeanor than by demanding.
Even when a wife gets her desire by demand, she looses her desire!
God told Eve, Thy desire shall be thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. Gen. 3:16
8669 teshuwqah (tesh-oo-kaw');Desire
from 7783 in the original sense of stretching out after; a longing:
KJV-- desire.
7783 shuwq-
to be abundant (meaning probable)
a) (Polel) to give abundance to
b) (Hiphil) to overflow
4910 mashal (maw-shal');Rule
a primitive root; to rule:
KJV-- (have, make to have) dominion, governor, X indeed, reign, (bear, cause to, have) rule (-ing, -r), have power.
A domineering is not unlike the proverbial fly who conquered the fly paper! She is more loser than winner.
Through submission a wise wife can be the greatest instrument in God’s hands for the fashioning of a real man.
If she is not affected by the satanic voices that urge her to rebel and overthrow her husband, she can build up her home by building up her husband.
Her fulfillment can be complete through compliance to God’s plan.
The rewards of accepting her role are innumerable; but perhaps the greatest blessing is knowing she is functioning as her Creator intended!
