Wise Men Still Seek Him

Focus Passage: Matthew 2:1-12

Supplemental Passage: "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33 NASB)

Introduction: Remarks about the different things that people seek today. Background on magi. Who were they? Where did they come from?

I. Wise Men Sought Jesus

a. They saw His Star and knew what it meant

b. Herod wanted to find Jesus as well, but only to kill Him.

c. We must seek Jesus.

II. Wise Men Found Jesus

a. They knew the prophecy that a king would be born, but had to go to locals to find out where.

b. Herod tried to use them to find the baby.

c. We must find Jesus.

III. Wise Men Worshiped Jesus

a. They brought gifts to the newborn king.

b. Herod brought death to the innocents, hoping to kill Jesus in the process.

c. We must worship Jesus.

Invitation: We will go to great lengths to find a perfect gift for someone or to find a lost key or document, but we won’t search the Scriptures to learn more about our God and our Savior. We must seek after Jesus with our whole heart.
