Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Using our words wisely is crucial for healthy relationships. We should learn to sit with others in their pain, use our words to build others up, guard our hearts, and be aware of our options to speak positively or negatively.
Today, we're going to talk about our words. You know, those things we say without thinking sometimes? Yeah, those. Let's see what the Bible has to say about it.
Ever heard of a guy named Job? Dude had it rough. Lost everything. His friends came to visit him, and you know what they did? They didn't say a word. They just sat with him. Sometimes, the best thing we can do for our friends is just be there, not try to fix everything.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do for our friends is just be there, not try to fix everything.
Now, imagine you're holding a tube of toothpaste. If you squeeze it hard, all the toothpaste comes out, right? And can you put it back in? Nope. Same with our words. Once they're out, they're out. So, we gotta make sure we're saying things that help, not hurt.
Paul, in the book of Ephesians, tells us to use our words to build others up. So, instead of dissing your friend's new haircut, maybe find something nice to say about it.
Proverbs tells us to guard our hearts. It's like putting a filter on your mouth. If you fill your heart with good stuff, like God's Word, then good stuff is what's going to come out of your mouth.
James says our words can bless or curse others. It's like having a superpower. You can use it for good or for evil. So, let's use our words to bless others, not to tear them down.
So, here's the deal. We all mess up sometimes. We say things we shouldn't. But let's try to do better. Let's try to use our words to help, not hurt. Let's try to be there for our friends, even when we don't know what to say. And let's fill our hearts with good stuff, so good stuff is what comes out.
God, help us to use our words wisely. Help us to be there for our friends, to say things that help, not hurt. And help us to fill our hearts with good stuff, so good stuff is what comes out. Amen.
