Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Explores the wisdom and power of God through the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, encouraging believers to find salvation, comfort, and strength in Him.
Good morning, dear family of faith. It is indeed a joyous occasion to gather with you all today, as we open our hearts and minds to the profound wisdom that lies within the sacred pages of our Holy Bible. We are here, not by chance, but by divine appointment, united in our shared love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In our time together today, we will turn our attention to the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians, specifically the passage found in chapter 1, verses 18 through 25. It is in these verses that we find the Apostle Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, addressing the church in Corinth with words of truth and wisdom that still resonate with us today.
We turn our attention now to the figure at the center of our faith, the cornerstone of our belief, the one who gives meaning to our existence and purpose to our lives. He is none other than Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Messiah, our Savior. In the passage we read from 1 Corinthians, Paul speaks of the message of the cross as being foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. This power is embodied in Jesus Christ, who willingly went to the cross for our sake. He bore our sins, took our punishment, and through His death and resurrection, He conquered sin and death once and for all.
A deliberate act: His sacrifice on the cross was not a random act of violence, but a deliberate act of love. He chose to lay down His life for us, to pay the price for our sins, so that we might be reconciled to God. This is the heart of the Gospel, the good news that we proclaim. But there's more to it than that. Jesus is not just our Savior in the sense that He saves us from the penalty of sin. He is also our Savior in the sense that He saves us from the power of sin. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus demonstrated His power over sin and death. He showed us that it is possible to live a life of righteousness and holiness, free from the grip of sin.
Saved from sin: He doesn't just save us from the consequences of our past mistakes, He also saves us from the power of sin in our present lives. He gives us the strength to resist temptation, the wisdom to make right choices, and the grace to grow in holiness and righteousness.
His role as our intercessor: The Bible tells us that Jesus is at the right hand of God, interceding for us. This means that He is our advocate, our representative, our defender before the throne of God. He pleads our case, He stands up for us, He fights for us. This is a comforting thought, isn't it? To know that we have someone who is always on our side, someone who is always looking out for us, someone who is always fighting for us. This is another way in which Jesus saves us. He saves us from the accusations of the enemy, from the condemnation of the law, from the judgment of God.
His role as our guide: Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Jesus is not just the way to salvation, He is also the way to a meaningful and fulfilling life. He is our guide, our teacher, our mentor. He shows us how to live, how to love, how to serve, how to forgive. This is yet another way in which Jesus saves us. He saves us from aimlessness and confusion, from doubt and despair, from fear and anxiety. He gives us direction, purpose, peace, and joy.
As we continue to reflect on the passage from 1 Corinthians, we find ourselves confronted with the reality of judgment and the promise of everlasting life ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
