VIII. MAIN BODY:

Matthew 13:54 (Amplified Bible)

And coming to His own country [Nazareth], He taught in their synagogue so that they were amazed with bewildered wonder, and said, Where did this Man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?

Matthew 13:54 (King James Version)

And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

A. Amazement and bewilderment will not build up faith

"And coming to His own country [Nazareth], He taught in their synagogue so that they were amazed with bewildered wonder,"

Astonished according to it's Greek words means "strike with astonishment, amaze, astonishment"

Mark 6:1-2 (Amplified Bible)

JESUS WENT away from there and came to His [own] country and hometown [Nazareth], and His disciples followed [with] Him.

And on the Sabbath He began to teach in the synagogue; and many who listened to Him were utterly astonished, saying, Where did this Man acquire all this? What is the wisdom [the broad and full intelligence which has been] given to Him? What mighty works and exhibitions of power are wrought by His hands!

Very basic foundation, seeing miracles or watching them on tv being performed right before your eyes will not build up your faith, but what builds up faith?

Romans 10:17 (Amplified Bible)

So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).

Be careful what you put in your heart, it might build up your faith or it might ruin and destroy it.

Romans 10:9-10 (Amplified Bible)

Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.

Remember what your heart believes, that is the one you will confess.

Proverbs 23:7 (Amplified Bible)

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. As one who reckons, he says to you, eat and drink, yet his heart is not with you [but is grudging the cost].

Treasure GOD in your heart, deep, deep into your heart. For if the WORD of GOD is your treasure, then you will crave for it and rejoice over it.

Matthew 6:21 (Amplified Bible)

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

ILLUSTRATION: Before I remember when I was still a baby CHRISTian, I like attending different miracle crusades so that in my own mind, it will increase my faith, if I see signs, wonders and miracles performed live before my very eyes, but it will not. Signs, wonders and miracles are for the unbelievers only, but believers need the SOLID WORD OF GOD.

1 Corinthians 14:22 (Amplified Bible)

Thus [unknown] tongues are meant for a [supernatural] sign, not for believers but for unbelievers [on the point of believing], while prophecy (inspired preaching and teaching, interpreting the divine will and purpose) is not for unbelievers [on the point of believing] but for believers.

1 Peter 2:2 (Amplified Bible)

Like newborn babies you should crave (thirst for, earnestly desire) the pure (unadulterated) spiritual milk, that by it you may be nurtured and grow unto [completed] salvation,

B. It will give you more questions of JESUS's wisdom and JESUS's powers.

"and said, Where did this Man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?"
