VIII. MAIN BODY:
Deuteronomy 17:17 (Amplified Bible)
And he shall not multiply wives to himself, that his [mind and] heart turn not away; neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
Deuteronomy 17:17 (New International Version)
He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.
A. A king must not take many wives
"He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray."
Nehemiah 13:26 (Amplified Bible)
Did not Solomon king of Israel act treacherously against God and miss the mark on account of such women? Among many nations there was no king like him. He was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel; yet strange women even caused him to sin [when he was old he turned treacherously away from the Lord to other gods, and God rent his kingdom from him].
Malachi 2:15 (Amplified Bible)
And did not God make [you and your wife] one [flesh]? Did not One make you and preserve your spirit alive? And why [did God make you two] one? Because He sought a godly offspring [from your union]. Therefore take heed to yourselves, and let no one deal treacherously and be faithless to the wife of his youth.
Matthew 19:5 (Amplified Bible)
And said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be united firmly (joined inseparably) to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?
Genesis 1:27 (Amplified Bible)
So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.
One wife is enough, like in the original plan of GOD.
B. A king must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold
"He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold."
Luke 12:15 (Amplified Bible)
And He said to them, Guard yourselves and keep free from all covetousness (the immoderate desire for wealth, the greedy longing to have more); for a man’s life does not consist in and is not derived from possessing overflowing abundance or that which is over and above his needs.
