WHY TROUBLE THE MASTER?

Luke 8:40-41 & 49

Intro: The Gospel of Luke is full of the miracles of Jesus and chapter 8 is just one of the many chapters filled with these spectacular events. Probably the most preached event from this chapter is the healing of the woman with the issue of blood. But I want to look at another person who had a dire need as well. I had never paid much attention to what I am going to preach about tonight and that is what I love about God revealing tings to you in the Scriptures. I find it interesting the number of 12 is so prevalent in my studying this message. Remember the number 12 is the number of power. In Mark 3:14 he ordained the twelve that they should be with him and in Luke 2:46 you find Jesus at the age of 12 in the temple sitting amongst the doctors both asking them questions and hearing them. And all that heared him were astonished at his understanding and his answers.

While the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years was pressing her way through the crowd that day there was another man in the crowd who needed to Jesus as well. This man Jairus was there seeking the Healer on behalf of his 12 year old daughter who was dying at home As the woman with the issue of blood had just received her healing Jairus received some bad news. I want to preach on the subject, “WHY TROUBLE THE MASTER?”

I. WHY TROUBLE THE MASTER (IN SICKNESS)

A. The woman with the issue of blood had done everything she knew to do

B. Spent everything, been to every doctor but the problem was she had never heard about what Jesus had done

C. (Mark 5:27) For when she had of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment

D. The problem for many folks today is they had never heard about what Jesus can do when you touch him, but better than that they have never experienced what happens when he touches you

E. This woman meant to touch Jesus. She had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

F. This disease she had for 12 years had power over her. Nut she was fixing to touch the one who had power over the disease!

G. But while she was rejoicing in her healing another man’s heart was breaking

H. Jairus had just been told by his servant that his daughter whom he had been seeking Jesus for was dead and there was no need to trouble the Master.

I. How Jairus heart must have sank in his chest

J. But thank God the one who had power over the disease heard every word that was told to Jairus.

K. (Isaiah 59:1) Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy; that he cannot hear

L. But Jesus knew why was there. The same faith that that had made the woman whole was the same faith that Jairus had but the problem was he did not have the power over the thing that had taken his daughter…death.

M. Perhaps Jairus was at the funeral of the widow’s son in Nain in Luke 7:12 when Jesus had touched the bier and the one that was dead sat up and spake.

N. All Jairus knew was his baby girl needed Jesus

O. I believe Jesus with deep passion in his eyes looked deep into the tear stained eyes of Jairus when he said

P. (Luke 8:50) …Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.

Q. Several hours later as a broken hearted mother looked out across the field she saw some figures outlined against the sun walking her way

R. Here comes Daddy bringing HELP home!!!

S. (Luke 8:52) And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth

T. (Luke 8:53) And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead

U. But what they didn’t know was that while she was dead to then she was merely asleep to Jesus!!!

V. (Luke 8:54) And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.

W. That night after everyone had gone home Jairus and Ms. Jairus laid in the bed talking about what had happened and from a distant bedroom and small voice shouted; Daddy, I sure am glad you troubled the Master. But to Jesus it was no trouble at all.

II. WHY TROUBLE THE MASTER (IN THE STORM)

A. Jesus had just gotten through preaching the parable of the sower and the parable of the candle

B. Jesus and his disciples had set sail for Gadara when a storm arose.
