John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Infinite = Measureless, unbounded, absolute, entire

A school boy questioned, why he knew there was only one God: “That is all there is room for”

Infinity expressed in God’s attributes!

God is eternal:

Psa 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

God is Omnipotent: Rev 19:6 “. . . Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”

God is Omniscient: Psa 147:5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

God is Immutable, Inscrutable, Incomprehensible:

Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

We use infinite terms we don’t mean, Ladies get a perm. How long does it last?

After the police arrested a con man for selling eternal youth pills, they did a background check and discovered he had a criminal record - he’d been arrested for the same crime in 1983, 1926, 1844, and 1638.

1. Infinite became Infant to declare an infinite God, make God manifest.

Some things you have to see to believe. An infinite being must be manifested.

A farmer I heard about went to his first circus and saw his first elephant. His description to a friend: “He’s got a tail on both ends and horns in his mouth.”

His friend looked aghast and said, “There ain’t no such critter!”

I John 1:1, 2, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)”

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

A spiritual “common denominator,” to work with fractions you need a common denominator, example for four-fifths and two-thirds, the common denominator is 15. No lower number -one through 14 - is a number into which both five and three will go. By using 15 we can work with fractions. Spiritually speaking, Jesus became a “common denominator” between God and man. He was both. Therefore it was possible for Him to reveal the Father within the scope of man’s understanding.

John 14:8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

2. The Infinite became an Infant to develop & deploy a Merciful High Priest.

Heb 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Heb 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted.

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God” (2 Cor 1:3-4).

I could say “I understand” and you could honestly say, “No, you don’t understand.” So let me show you where to find real comfort.

1. The God of all Comfort

“Father of Mercies” To the Jewish people, the phrase “father of” means “originator of.” Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44) because lies originated with him.

The words “comfort” or “consolation” (same root word in the Greek) are repeated 10 times in verses 1-11.

We must not think of comfort in terms of “sympathy,” because sympathy can weaken us instead of strengthen us. God does not pat us on the head and give us a piece of candy or a toy to distract our attention from our troubles. No, He puts strength into our hearts so we can face out trials and triumph over them. Our English word comfort comes from two Latin words meaning “with strength.” The Greek word means “to come alongside and help.”
