Contributed by Dr.w.samuel Legon on Nov 6, 2010 (message contributor)
Summary: We must have the spirit to serve.
WHYTHE HOLY SPIRIT
Ephesians 3:5
Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
Ephesians 4:30
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
1 Peter 2:5
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
1. To convince sinners
John 16:8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
He will show men their sins
He will convict men of sin
He will show men the judgment of God
He will teach men how to be saved
2. To be a comforter
John 16:7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
He will comfort us in all our needs
He will comfort us in the hour when no one else can
He came to fill our needs
He came as Christ in us to lead us
3. To guide us in the truth
John 16:13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
He brings truth of God to us
He will guide us in all truth
He will speak unto us as the father gives
He will show us things to come
4. He came to abide in the believer
John 14:16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
He is in us and for us as Christ was
Christ said he would not leave us alone
He abides in us now and for ever
He will never leave us
5. He came to empower us for service
Acts 1 :8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Power to witness to all men
Power to share Gods word
Power to understand what his word says
Power to do things beyond our expectations
6. To sanctify
Matt. 3:
11I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
John did it mans way through God
Jesus did it as Gods son
He baptized us in the Holy Spirit
He baptized us with fire from heaven
7. To produce fruit of the spirit
Galatians 5: 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
That we may produce Love
That we may produce joy
That we may have peace
That we may be longsuffering
That we may be gentle
That we may have strong faith
