Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Suffering has a purpose in our lives, as it expands our faith, sanctifies us, and makes us savory to the world around us.
Today, we're gonna talk about something we all face in life: suffering. Yeah, I know it's not the most fun topic, but stick with me, because I promise it's important.
We all go through tough times, and sometimes it's hard to see why. But guess what? God has a plan for all of it, and He's using it for something amazing.
God has a plan for all of it, and He's using it for something amazing.
Before we dive in, let's do a quick object lesson. I want you to think of a piece of coal. It's black, dirty, and not very pretty, right? But when it goes through intense heat and pressure, it can turn into a beautiful diamond. That's kind of like us when we go through tough times. God uses our suffering to shape us into something amazing.
Now, let's look at some Bible verses that talk about this. Check out Romans 5:3-5 and 8:28-29, Matthew 5:13-16, and Acts 9:15-16. These verses show us that suffering has a purpose in our lives. It helps us grow in our faith and become more like Jesus.
So, why do we suffer? Here are a few reasons:
1. Suffering expands our faith. When we go through tough times, it helps us trust God more and grow closer to Him. It also helps spread the message of Jesus to others.
2. Suffering sanctifies us. That's a fancy word for saying it makes us more like Jesus. When we go through hard times, it helps us become the people God wants us to be.
3. Suffering makes us 'salty.' In the Bible, Jesus calls us the 'salt of the earth.' Salt makes things taste better, right? When we go through suffering, it helps us become better examples of Jesus to the world around us.
Now, let's get practical. What can we do when we're going through tough times? Here are some ideas:
1. Trust the process. Remember that God has a plan, even when it's hard to see.
2. Lean into your story. Don't be afraid to share your struggles with others. You never know who might be going through something similar and needs to hear your story.
3. Remember your purpose. Our main goal in life is to glorify God and share His love with others. Even in our suffering, we can do that.
Let's finish up with a prayer.
"God, thank You for being with us in our suffering. Help us trust Your plan and use our pain for Your glory. Make us more like Jesus and help us be a light to the world around us. Amen."
1. How has suffering expanded your faith?
2. In what ways has suffering sanctified you or made you more like Christ?
3. How can you use your suffering to be "salty" and impact the world around you?
4. How can you trust God's process and purpose in your suffering?
5. How can you support and encourage others who are going through difficult times?
