II- God is worthy of our praise
Exodus 15:11
Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Psalm 48:1
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
Hebrews 3:3
For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
Revelation 5:12-13
12Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
13And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
The Lord our God is worthy to be praise both for what He has done, is doing and will do in the future, and for who He is for ever more.
1-For his mighty acts
From the very beginning of scriptures, we see that God almighty is creating the heavens and earth, and all that is within it. We see in awe how He manifests his glory, signs, wonders and power through his mighty acts. I especially like to think about the miraculous power of God parting of the red sea in Exodus 15. This one miracle led to a powerful praise celebration by all of the children of Israel, led by Moses and his sister prophetess Myriam.
Throughout the scriptures, whenever God did miracles, his people would praise and thank him for his mighty power. I love to read the book of psalms of King David recounting the works of the Lord, and giving God praise for what He has done.
Psalms 18, 40, 66, 107, 135, 136 etc
As a new convert, we usually praise and thank God for what He has done for us personally. For answered prayers, for saving us from the kingdom of darkness and translating us into the His kingdom. For healing our bodies, for giving our life a new meaning. However, as we grow in Christ, we learn to also praise Him for who He is. The nature of God is so great, so mysterious, that all eternity may not be enough for us to discover who God fully is. We can only know Him by Him revealing himself unto us. Taking away the scales from our eyes, and bringing light into our darkness.
2-For who He is
For God to act so mightily, and do wonders, He has to be himself a marvelous God, and awesome God.
Psalm 113:5
Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
Psalm 48:1,5,9-10,14
1Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
5They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.
9We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
10According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
14For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.
Psalm 117
1O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.
2For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.
1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
Psalm 145:1-9,11-12,17-18, 21
1I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.
2Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.
3Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.
5I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.
6And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.
7They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.
8The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
9The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.
11They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;
12To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.
